How Shrunk? (Patreon)

Just curious, so a general poll for everyone. If a shrinking / shrunk scenario, approximately what percentage of their normal size is best?

The chart below is one I made a long time ago, and hopefully helpful here (six circles because those were the proportions I used back then).

For each, the first number is the size of the person, and the second is how big everything else seems relative to their new perspective.

Note that 125% considered in three dimensions means everything seems about 1.25 cubed bigger, so everything would seem to have *nearly* twice as much volume to someone at 80% size.

At first glance, I read the question as 'How Skunk?, which is also a viable question for EGS.

It really depends. If the scenario is all about the shrunk and dealing with being tiny and trying to figure out what to do, smaller the better. If the scenario is "oh no I am shrinking and I need to deal with people", then it doesn't need to be nearly as drastic. If it's "Welp now I'm small. Hey, normal buddy, help me out with this pencil", then somewhere in the middle would work best for me.

My thought is if you're going to shrink, go big. Doll-size, action-figure size seems best (my math says that's the 10% mark) (Unless you're going "Fantastic Voyage" small, which isn't in the poll...) I have no strong opinion though. Shrink isn't a fetish of mine, so all I really care about is a fun story.

I'm old enough to have watched "Land of the Giants" on TV... and that's always felt like the right fantasy size to me.

Agree about the story. If the scenario is just "This person is shrunk", that's mostly "meh" to me. If the scenario is something like "We've shrunk Grace, Ashley, and Ellen to 10% of their normal size, and placed them on the floor with a bunch of random office supplies. Can they use the supplies to get onto Tedd's desk, where there's a device to unshrink themselves? No magic allowed!", then that sounds interesting.

It naturally depends, but this is a "generally speaking" sort of thing. We could have dozens different polls for specific scenarios, but this is just in general.

Yeah, I had to decide whether there were only two sizes available, or if there was a sliding scale option (I decided on the former, so I picked a size that would allow me to get into normally-tight spaces but still able to communicate with others).

Which makes sense though some of us realize realize certain situations work best with different ranges. Where more subtly is important 80% is good, for doll action hijinks (the best hijinks) 10%, and for obvious karmic retribution 50%.

I've always felt that around 6 inches tall is a great size - not too small to communicate and interact at least in some fashion, and not too big to be able to explore interesting places. It also allows for easy conversion between inches/feet, as that makes 1 inch = 1 scale foot. The closest to that is the 10% option, so I chose that.

Generally, I only want shrinking in very specific circumstances. Basically, one girl doll-sized and her GF normal sized. If she’s not literally riding in someone’s cleavage, then there’s other things I’d rather see.

Agreed. Although the 15 to 18 cm range (6" to 7") given by reducing 5 to 6 feet to 10% is also easy to convert, if you use metric ^_^

I'm a fan of all sorts of scales, up to and including scales that involve colonies of folks shrunken so small that they're, say, living on the chest of someone else, who is the size of a planet to them. There's appeal to all sorts of sizes, though my preference is for sizes that would normally be quite literally impossible: doll-sized or below.

It depends on the context. I prefer gradual shrinking over time, in which case the smaller the better, but if the only option is the sudden *poof* you're small now type of shrinking I'd go with 30-40%.

I kind of agree with Beck -- it depends on the situation. Sometimes just "shorter than" is best, other times the subject should become doll- or charm-sized. And then there's the times child-sized works better.

There will always be specifics that skew results. This is to give me a general idea from a somewhat large sample size of people. Scenarios can also be inferred by the sizes chosen. Different scenarios / stages of shrinking are fairly naturally implied.

I like when the tiny person is small enough to use doll things--e.g. the big person dresses them up in doll clothes.
