Yay Frieren. I'm finishing up watching the Apothecary Diary reaction in the next 10 minutes then it's Frieren times 😋

great reaction as usual. really enjoyed it! my interpretation of the scene was that he was in fact experiencing the beginnings of senility. to me, frieren was so used to him feigning senility as a way of fooling demons, that she never once believed he would actually begin to lose his memory. at that moment frieren realizes that he is actually losing his memories. earlier she called him a jokester when he talked about not remembering what his wife looked like. you can see her pupils shake at that moment, as she deals with the fact that a. one of the last few people she has left from that era is losing his memory and b. there may be a time when she no longer remembers himmel's face.

i might also be wrong here, but i believe that when someone is experiencing a lapse of memory like that, or seems to be sort of "stuck in time" with dementia, senility, or alzheimers, you're not supposed to correct them. i don't want to go so far as to say you're "supposed to roleplay" with them, but from what experience i've had seeing people interact with loved ones like that i have noticed they tend to do that.

Well they are in a fantasy world set in maybe the medieval period so photography would be so remote to them. I guess 300 is in the ballpark of what I expected. However we don’t know how old is Eisen. 🤣Stark can’t stand up after getting hit by Voll. We know he’s not seriously hurt by the tone and since he walks the next few scenes that make it funny. To be fair, a decade for Fern is quite a long time. The carrots pulling was quite a fun animation It's the first time we see Frieren being so happy just talking to someone. Old man Voll is starting to forget things. 🥺 I guess that why he hang on to the promesses even if he doesn’t remember what his wife look like. It’s sad but touching at the same time. As to why Frieren didn’t correct him, my guess is that he’s forgetful. Maybe it’s not the first time he mentioned it, and she corrected him before. Now she just plays along with it. That so much Himmel to help everyone run errant. 🤣”but our party only has socially awkward members.” 🤣 Sein went into this journey just to find his friend. He really needs to find him. Or at least find out what happened to him. But I hope to find him. After Episode. Voll looks much older than Eisen. So I think he has some time left. There are still a lot of monsters in the northern region. That is why they need a first class mage. Happy Holiday to everyone. It’s time to have some fun, relax, let loose and let future you deal with all the problems afterward. 😁 Take care 😋

Couple of points that assume you've watched this and prior episodes, so please don't read if you didn't yet. She didn't tell Old Man Voll - for couple of reasons. You wouldn't want to take Voll's reason to live, especially since he would be embarrassed that he forgot that (or likely didn't even register - though he was certainly told that - many times) Demon King's death. His memory was slipping already when he met Hero's party (he was equivalent in years to Human who was around 95 - now closer to 115-125). He said that he won't talk about his wife, because those are his memories alone, but truth was that he back then could barely remember her if at all. 80 years later he couldn't completely. Frieren was thinking she was being mocked, but that's when she realized that her Elvish near perfect memory is not a template she should be judging others by. Especially extremely elderly Dwarf. Correcting Voll, would be cruel. He would feel a lot of emotions that he wouldn't be able to process in time, before he forgot again. In Manga this is basically the saddest chapter. Frieren knows death, she knows what long time is, but she doesn't know (nor any elf that we met) what old age feels like. What it is to forget things that one knew. As for Ausserst (I don't have german keyboard to write "double S") - they need to pass examination there for first class mage - that is why they are travelling that way ever since graf Granat told them at the end of episode 11. They don't know when it happens, but that means they cannot waste time. If they decide to go with Sein, that detour might change into a very long one. Uncertainty is not great when on the mission. And whole topic of the Anime is that Frieren is learning about Humans. She has taken 2 children (now young adults) under her wing and cannot treat their time as she would have treated her own. Of course Fern is annoying with her 1 week maximum, but 1. Decade is equally if not more over the top, given that Frieren promised that she won't waste their time. 2. Frieren didn't even try to haggle for let's say "10 days" - Fern might have agreed to that seeing a reasonable demand. Her "week maximum" was a response to unreasonable demand of "decade". It would be betrayal of what Frieren already accomplished to now start doing whatever she wants without regard for other's time. Especially 2 minors (until this year you were a minor in Japan if you were less than 20 years old - at least in some legal sense - like signing a contract) under her care. And Fern and Stark couldn't go to "Aureole" alone (especially given Japanese laws and their age). First of all, this is Frieren's quest, that others joined (Fern was especially wanting to go there as well). Second they are a team. They compromise. That is something that Fern will also have to learn, but discounting Sein, Frieren is the only adult in the team. Sein will have to decide what to do. Even if they split, they might draw plans to meet up. Of course that's not going to be easy, given that last info on Gorilla's whereabouts is almost 10 years old. But given that both choices suggest north (with Aureole being at northernmost top of the continent), even splitting up has a big chance of them reuniting. I get your feelings, but things that would have made for more "agreeable" episode, would ruin the story in the long run. Especially since some of them would require Frieren to revert to the person she was at the beginning of Episode 1, when she left other behind in Capital promising to be back in 50 years to see meteorites and coming back once in a while (which she didn't- we don't know if she didn't care or if her journeys never took her close to capital - we do know that she didn't make an effort to visit, prior to the 50 years anniversary). That would be character regression and undoing development she made since episode 1. AFAIK Part 2 will start in 2 weeks. Can't wait to see your reactions.
