So if I understand correctly, you guys are saying that Ryuk can kill anyone and take their remaining lifespan. The same thing applies to death note users. I am just wondering, what is the benefit of even giving someone a death note? Why were they even created? If that’s a spoiler don’t answer. I’m just wondering what additional benefits it gives the Shinigami to give a person a Death note, other than taking half of their remaining lifespan (if they make that deal). I mean that isn’t too different from just killing some random person on the street. I feel like there has to be more to it than that. Right? If anything, you’re getting less by taking half of the life of someone with a death note when making that deal (because he can’t kill him before he’s actually supposed to die). Why not just kill him before he got the book? He’d get more life that way. I mean I know that Light getting the book was pure coincidence, but why make this deal in the first place? If he needed more life that badly, he could kill anyone, according to you guys. So what is the point of this proposal? Was it just to spice things up, or because he actually needs it somehow? Maybe death note users’ life forces are stronger or better somehow? Idk!!!

Shinigame can drop a death note by accident (probably rare), or drop just to see the human struggle with.

Well we don't know about the previous cases of Death Notes being on the human world, but in Ryuk's case he wanted to have fun. He wanted to see how a human will deal with thar kind of power. I think the same reason applies when he offered Light the deal. Shinigami don't gain anything when they drop their Notes on the human world or make a deal with them. It's just pleasure.

There is no benefit to the Shinigami Realm for giving the Death Note to a human user. The Death Notes were created as tools for the Shinigami to use. It just so happens that anyone can use one, Shinigami or not. There are established rules when it comes to a Death Note coming to the human world, though, that have been mentioned before. In particular, if a Death Note is picked up by a human, the Shinigami who it belonged to must stay with the human until the human dies(or until the Note is used up, at which point the Shinigami can take it to be exchanged for a new, empty Note. The new Note is then presented to the human). "Why not just kill him to get the book?" Keep in mind that Shinigami are not supposed to have multiple Notes, and the only reason Ryuk had a second one is because he tricked the Shinigami King into letting him have another one. (This was mentioned in Episode 1, with the other Shinigami being surprised he lost his, since he conned the King into giving him another one). This is why all the Shinigami mock Ryuk for dropping "his" Note in the human world; they consider him an idiot for letting that happen, because(in ordinary circumstances) if a human finds it, that Shinigami has no Death Note until they get theirs back from the human. Having a human claim their Note is an incredible hassle to the Shinigami, so they (seemingly rightfully) insult Ryuk for having lost "his". THIS is part of the benefit of the Eye deal for Shinigami: it shortens the human user's lifespan, so they can get their own Note back sooner.

Ryuk said in episode one that he will kill Light with his on death note, drop so with the deal or not the shinigame will get the life span of Light. Make the deal and give the shinigame eye it's just other variable to see whacth going to happen, all for the Ryuk entertainment.

Entertainment in the case of the MC. Ryuk have Light his death note just so he could watch whatever shenanigans Light got up to with it. Imagine giving a machete to a wild chimpanzee just so you could watch what it did with it. Would the chimp go back to it's troop and take over? Would it go on a killing spree killing other chimps? Would it use it to benefit it's troop and fight off predators? Ryuk was just bored.

Death Notes are for shinigami , they weren't meant for human and when one drops in the human world it is usually by accident unlike Ruyk case who dropped is on purpose out of boredom to see what human would do with a power like that.

As far as I know there's no ulterior motive, no hidden benefit or big scheme Ryuk is trying to pull off; he just wants to make it more intersting, add variables to the equation to increase the tension, that guy simply is that straight-forward. Not meaning to sound insulting or anything, but to be honest I'm starting to find it extremely funny how you don't trust the only guy in the whole show who's just taking a backseat & enjoying the ride like everyone of us XD

Oh okay so now it makes sense. If they only had one, and that’s the only way to lengthen their lifespan so to speak, then having lost his would be a problem. But he has two so it isn’t an issue for him. Okay got it! Makes sense! Thank you. I need to rewatch episode one where they say that about him having two death notes.

He seemed super sketchy in that scene. Come on! I can’t be the only one who thought that on their first watch.
