The Germanic Empire and the Entente Alliance have a territory dispute in Norden. It escalated into war. The EA sent its military across the border when the Empire was busy fighting the Republic in episode 2, thinking they could take advantage. The other sad part about this episode is the full train load of young soldiers got blown away by naval guns, before seeing their first battle. They were probably influenced by motivational speeches like the one they were hearing on the train all this time, thinking they were "defending their homeland," when it was really about the leaders of two nations couldn't agree on where the border was drawn. Paradropped means they dropped from a plane, as in paratroopers. The patrol ships were taken out by the Imperial Navy, as it was moving across the ocean. If the defensive guns were not taken out in time, the Navy would have to turn back and embarrass themselves. The Empire's reputation as a competent military power would be ruined. Tanya proposed to not attack until the winter is over, because I guess you use up more supply during winter (food, fuel, maintenance...). She might not be a position to give opinions as a strategy officer, only factual analysis and strategies on how to execute a plan. The plans themselves should come from people like generals. She can only make formal proposals if she had a plan.

Following Informations are Details for People who dont have the Knowledge about those Things: In this Episode, you could see the first "Signs" that they drift in this World more and more in the technical Area of the 1930s and 1940s. First, the massive Plane that they used to fly in the 203rd Mage Company. It was a German Design, build in 1940. It was first build as a Heavy Transport Glider, but after some Problems ( especially to bring this thing into the Air) they used French Gnome-Rhone Engines, that the Plane can fly for himself. It was called " Me323" and had a lenght of 28,15 m, and a Wingspan of 55m. It was the biggest Plane in WW2. ( It could carry as Glider 20t into a Battlefield, the later updated Version with the Engines could carry 15t) And then there are the Ships who came into the Fjord after the Guns were destroyed. The 2 Small Ships before the Battleship are designed after German Destroyer of the Type " Zerstörer 1936" who were build in the 1930s , while the Battleship was a German Bayern-Class from WW1, build around 1916. Btw, if you want to know how big the Plane was, i have a Original Picture where they drive out a 5t Truck out of a Me323^^ https://abload.de/img/me323gigantausladeneia7kjx.jpg

She should be the one making the plans. They’re better than the plans they come up with! Okay so they’re going to war over something stupid? So same thing still applies; I don’t care who wins.

The funny thing is that in the beginning of the show, Tanya also stated her dislike for warfare because it's a "wasteful activity", even if she was only talking about it from a materialistic point of view and only went with it because it was her best option given her circumstances

the interesting part is that, for the average footsoldier on the front, it doesn't matter that much why they're fighting, it's shitty either way and makes perfectly normal people - who otherwise had no issues with each other - kill each other over some patch of dirt at the border

The actual reasons for the war are almost irrelevant it's just the situation that Tanya described that would cause people to have faith in God so Being X sent her there. Being X isn't an a-hole he/she/it is in the role of a parent trying to teach a teenager a badly needed lesson. You said it yourself don't get cocky which Tanya is in her beliefs about people. The sin that corrupted Lucifer was self-generated pride.
