Ok let me see if I can clear up the confusion. Simple answer is that she can use her wish to save herself instead of using it to doom the world. But if she chooses to live and not doom the world as long as she loves him the most he will be the sacrifice. That’s why when he figured out that he had fallen for her he told her to love him. He actually figured he loved her in the episode where she went to work with him and they sat watching the 50 year old man on his way to his wedding delivery what I believe is the traditional gifts. They where watching that and what she told him finally opened his eyes to the fact that he was okay with the world not being doomed and for her to use her wish on herself to live while that would doom him if she loved him. He is very petty when he realizes he has fallen for her he doesn’t want her to know it. him going on the double date is him being petty and jealous. And him making her lean in to kiss him is also him digging in his heals and being petty. Kind of like him saying how can she make him fall for her so easily. he was pretty much saying two can play that game in the most childish and petty of ways.
