Oh stop it, this is so cute. Educating Rita is a 1983 British drama film starring Julie Walters as a gobby lady who just wants to learn about poetry for some reason. It's one of those films where very little actually happens but it's also wildly poignant, as the brassy and common-as-all-arse Rita faces off with a drunk university tutor played by Michael Caine. When I first saw this, I didn't stop proclaiming, "Wouldn't you simply die without Mahler?" for about a week.

I watched this film in English class after my teacher read the book to the class... I will never forget her doing the thick Scouse accent for every line of Ritas dialogue. I think she wanted to be actress on the downlow... Really enjoyed the film and I think it's very relatable if you're a working class person who went to uni with a bunch of people who are clearly from greater privilege than you.
