I'd like to thank Paul for this episode. Not only has he produced some gorgeous graphics for us over the years but he brought it to my attention that I've never dedicated a pod to my main bird, Joanna Lumley. Although Joanna is primarily an actress, my love for her grew out of her travel documentary pieces, whereby she takes us all around the globe in her inimitably charming style.

The fave series! Sorry if these aren't available in your region:

The first time I saw Joanna Lumley was in James and The Giant Peach, which I watched endlessly as a kid, so when I saw her in Absolutely Fabulous I was like “is that Aunt Spiker?!?!”. After listening to this I watched her Northern Lights documentary on YouTube and I began to get misty eyed when she saw the lights at the end! Thank you for the recommendation~!

I didn't think there was anyone else that would appreciate Joanna and her travel docos as much as I do. I completely understand what you mean re her docos being a safe space to go to when things are a bit rubbish. I think it's her positivity and ability to capture the humanity of everyone she encounters that makes it such a joyful watch. The Japan doco actually gave me the motivation to do my own solo journey there in 2019. I even went to some of the places she had ventured to, inc the Jigokudani Monkey Park in Nagano. Hella agree that she should do a Down Under here in NZ. I couldn't contain myself if I saw her walking past me on the Wellington streets. Cheers for the podcast, glad I'm not the only Lumleyphile <3
