Beary Good News Everyone!

You can now download and play the newest release of Kincaid! ^w^

Also, I made the last experimental build, Glitchcaid 2, available for all $5 patrons. Please check it out and let me know what you think! Glitchcaid 2 is an overhaul based on our learnings from developing Kincaid. I’ll post more about it down below. But first, let’s look at what’s new in 2022.06!

Bear Enemy Added!

Find him in the spooky forest behind the rift in the tree top palace!

Please note that some of the graphics are still placeholders or unfinished. I wasn’t able to complete all the animation work before my LARP event, but I will get back to work next Monday and the completed sprites will make it into the Quality of Life update we’ll work on next! ^w^

Same goes for all the sound effects! The voice actor has sent us a batch of recordings, but we didn’t get around to processing them and adding them to the game. ^^

How to lewd frenemies!

In this build we’re introducing a new way to have fun with the enemies! We’ve shown this a while back in the “Domcaid” Experimental Build ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/61582560 ) a few months ago.

To trigger a scene, just walk up to the defeated enemy. If there are no other enemies closeby, the game will offer you the option to have some fun!

Do note that the threesome isn’t possible to trigger in this version. We’ll add that back into the game in the Quality of Life update.

Similarly the CGs used to be for game overs. Going forward we’re going to find a new way to integrate them. For now you’re able to enjoy them from the gallery!

But wait, there is more!

But this isn’t all we’ve been working on! As we’ve mentioned in our roadmap post ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/66500973 ), Null is currently hard at work on an overhaul featuring a bigger moveset, a higher resolution and some other things.

I’ll just copy and post the release post from earlier. ^w~

Hotfix 1

This hotfix addresses a few issues and bugs and introduces some minor changes:

  • Fixed: Crash when dying under water
  • Fixed: Unable to leave temple on some sequence breaks or corrupted saves.
  • Fixed: Kincaid keeping the last cutscene frame after the lewd act.
  • Fixed: Camera jumps after a cutscene instead of smoothly sliding over.
  • Fixed: Small visual bug in the pottery moss hut.
  • Fixed: Rare game crash when climbing a ladder.
  • Fixed: Obscure collision bug where Kincaid could get stuck in the water works moss hut.
  • Changed: Reduced volume of "no damage done" chime
  • Changed: Fade out after dying is a bit faster.
  • Changed: Bear act is a bit shorter
  • Changed: Warp Room has been reintroduced for people with broken save games.
  • Changed: Lewd acts can be skipped.


Glitchcaid 2

Important Note: Control Scheme is at the bottom of the post!

As the previous Glitchcaid, this build is meant to gather feedback on new abilities and movement options we have been working on.

Since none of the actual in-game content is built around these abilities we made a few raw levels and packaged them into their own little mini adventure for you to enjoy! ^w~

On Difficulty

The levels in this build aren’t big but they are challenging. We made them a bit harder on purpose so you’re forced to really play with them and not just mess around a little bit.

Rest assured: The difficulty in this build is not reflective of what the desired difficulty in the actual Kincaid game is going to be.

New Abilities & Movement Options

Here’s the list of new abilities that you’ll find in this build:

Ledge Grab - We felt like the basic platformer was missing something. Barely missing a platform and falling down felt bad. We went back and forth on introducing walljumping that works everywhere and other options to help with that. In the end we decided to go with ledge grabbing/climbing. We thought it fits the type of levels we want to build a bit better.

Crawling - Only ducking felt a bit too slow and limiting so we decided to introduce crawling. It won’t be super slow tho, as not to interrupt the smooth flow of running & jumping. Together with the ledge grab it allows for far more interesting level design.

Hand-over-Hand Climbing

These mechanics only exist in code now, I haven’t done animations for any of them yet, so the footage looks a bit silly. xD

Reintroduced & reworked Hookshot - First introduced in our “Glitchcaid” demo but deemed unusable because of how little of the surrounding area the player can see. But since we’ve increased the resolution of the game it has become a viable option again!

Gliding - Kincaid’s boots can emit a powerful impulse that allows her to double jump. Now she can emit the energy continuously to allow her to glide down gently!

Rail Grinding - Kincaid can now use the forcefield of her boots to grind along rails at high speed! Cookie made the sprites for this over a year ago but like the hookshot, this mechanic also wasn’t feasible in the old resolution.

Reintroduced Downsmash - Another ability that was first introduced in the Glitchcaid demo. It used to be a charged melee attack. We made it easier to launch and brought it back into the overhaul version.

Reworked Dash & Dodge Roll - The dodge roll felt too sluggish compared to the dash. We brought both abilities closer together and made the roll feel more dynamic.

More Platforming Forgiveness - We added more small forgiveness tweaks like allowing Kincaid to jump up a platform if only a few pixels are missing for her to reach it! Nothing huge or groundbreaking, but makes the platforming experience even smoother overall.

Higher Resolution - We also changed the game’s resolution to better support faster movement speeds and more involved platforming.

Important Note

This build is based on the overhaul version I have mentioned in my previous roundup ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/66500973 ) so a few things are broken or not yet finished.

For example, we’ve switched to a new input manager to better support all kinds of controllers. The conversion is not yet complete, so rebinding keys doesn’t work as of yet.

Please have a look at it and let us know what you think. ^^ We're pretty happy with it so far and think it makes for a better game. But we'll see what people think.

I've already talked about it, but I will list my thoughts about it again: 1. This drastically changes the tone of the game. Enemies are not trying to have "fun" and Kincaid is just being "not against it", but in this case they are actively assaulting her to inflict damage 2. This neuters some enemies, like slimes or tigers with ambush interactions 3. Knocked out enemies suddenly have the willpower and energy to have sex. I know we are talking about space wolf on a horny planet(s), but yeah The most common argument for this mechanic is that it won't make player lose to get these scenes, or "lose to get reward". I would disagree and say that this is not a gameplay objective (collect all lewd scenes) but rather aesthetics. Besides, this is not Soulslike game to make losing a bar of HP a major setback. Lastly, I have been supporting the game for... considerable amount of time, thinking that the core idea will remain the same. Now with this shift in mechanics it is really starting to drift into different direction. I hope this helps.

It seems like I can't get stunned by enemies anymore, I can't even do the domcaid mechanic with the gecko lady

Tested it on a new save, I can indeed use the domcaid mechanic on her, my guess is that the water repair fight broke it again

you have to clear all enemies in the immediate vicinity in order to initiate it. don't forget that, as that tripped me up too!

Adore it! I love the power dynamic! I will say sometimes it stinks when the characters animations go behind foliage. Might it be possible to have them jump forward in layers like they do in the final cutscene?

Game feels good, and the domcaid mechanic is mostly seamless, however some things I've noticed. You cannot unlock new gallery entries with the game in this state (Lizard Girl, at least on my end, can't be interacted with)

As others have said, the new parts in the game seem to be integrated seamlessly well. Now I just wish there was a walkthru so I could remember where everything was and where to go ;-) Just one thing: I found something that crashed my game. In the underground caves (southeast of the Kinkaid village) if I fall into the yellow lava and die (not just lose a life point but DIE) the game crashes with: "ERROR in action number 1 of Step Event0 for object obj_player: Data structure with index does not exist. at gml_Script_kincaid_state_normal ############################# gml_Script_kincaid_state_normal (line -1) gml_Script_truestate_step (line -1) gml_Object_obj_player_Step_0"

The Problem is, its too much. ^^ Jump, Jump, Dash, Rope, Rope. If you too early you dash in the Spikes, if you to late you fall in the Spikes. If all perfect, you use the Rope and... fall in the Spikes. xD I would be interested to know if Cookiedraggy played it and if so, how many tries it took her. ^^

Thanks for taking the time to put your thoughts into writing. I understand all the points, but there is always arguments for each design direction and they all make sense. I expected that not everyone would like the direction we're taking things. I hope the game is still fun to you overall regardless. But if not I also completely understand as well.

Wolfboss not spawning in his normal area anymore? Feature or bug? Started from new save to look for stuff like that. Can also confirm no enemies cause stun. Will attempt again after waterwheel quest

So if Domkaid is the intended grapple system only, then working as intended. If intended I think it's a good thing for gameplay flow. If not, even after waterwheel enemies cannot stun and grapple in combat. Further, I don't think mapsections are drawn up for the marble-quest area or the underwater area of the temple, which would be why the map function doesn't work in either area, but just in case: The map function doesn't work in either area. Only tryin'a help though! Loving all the love and polish y'all put into Kinkaid, thank you for all the effort!

i think the only issue i have rn is having to replay a new save just to unlock the area to be able to get to the bear, my other save with all the abilities unlocked is kinda stuck in a spot where i cant seem to back track to the village for the life of me, (near the huge kobold boss fight).

Yeah until the overhaul on which Glitchcaid is based on is done, save games can break :/ I made a new more robust system for the overhaul, sorry for the inconvenience. Next week I will be putting out a hotfix which re-introduces the warp room from an earlier build where you can choose your upgrades and starting point, to recreate a broken save.

Currently the palace becomes available once you do the quest for the Sky Scouts teacher! This will also lead you to the area with wolves and bears. ^^

Honestly. the best thing to do would be to do both but have a separate animation for when Kincaid has beaten and is topping an opponent (Amazon Position, Cowgirl, Pegging, etc.), vs when an opponent has beaten her down, (Missionary, doggy style, forced bj, etc.). Plus a good idea although one a bit hard to implement would be threeway animations when an enemy is domming and another enemy approaches (A kobold comes to fuck Kincaid's pussy while the Gecko rides her face etc.)

Thanks! Yeah some map sections are missing. We are currently rebuilding everything using the new jungle/temple art so we figured updating the minimap isn't worth it, since most sections are going to be scrapped ^^

I'm not sure how to get the second to last gallery one. You said it's the first Kobold you talk to but I don't know where he is, and the Kobold on the bridge won't say anything to me. May I ask how to get it? Thank you
