I always have hard time color-picking the base colors from a reference (an anime screenshot in this case, but it's the same when I use Genshin's key arts colors) because they're so light that it takes many Adjustment layers to darken them as required to the atmosphere I have in mind! 

I'm slowly learning how to make them work, since I find color picking useful to have a base to work on, especially when I have to paint the background from scratches or in short comics where I have just a color as background. Usually the key is one or more Multiply layers which quickly darken some areas and create nice contrast!
