Hi, everyburdy! Through a good art friend of mine, I recently became aware of SubscribeStar. It's very similar to Patreon but has a few pluses and minuses. On the up side, it is much less judgmental on content apparently. Stories about Patreon clamping down on pornographic content come up now and then but I've not had any issues myself. Since I do not include humans in anything I post, I should be ok. However, there are still gray areas and some other creators have had issues. So, I think it wise for me to possibly have another alternative, just in case this happens to me. On the negative side, they do not accept PayPal but there are plenty of other options that most adults (which is my target audience anyway) should be able to use just fine.

BTW, if I create an account there, the content would mirror this site so you wouldn't miss anything if you were in one or the other. I like that SubscribeStar has webhooks (Patreon does not) so I could actually post content automatically without having to do extra manual work.

Has anyone here subscribed to or used SubscribeStar? If so, please comment below.

As dilong said, I would have to pay more on SS than on Patreon. I pay $5.95 here on Patreon for my perk ($5.00 to you and 19% VAT = $0.95). On SS, I would have to pay $6.13 ($5.00 for you, 19% VAT = $0.95 and $0.18 transaction fee). AND I have to pay (in my case) 1.9% for currency change. That is around €0.10-€0.11 (or $0.11-$0.12) for me. In the end I would have to pay $6.24 on SS. Around $0.30 more to pay without getting more benefits for me. Or the chance to give YOU more money. 💰 I will stay here on Patreon. Not because I don't like SS, but because it's cheaper for me to support you here instead on SS. Something else: Not everyone have a credit card. I have a prepaid credit card. And I wouldn't own one if I had to pay several services in the internet. Here in Germany, only 6-7% owns a credit card. This could be similar in other countries. This are my two cents on this topic 🙃

There's an option for debiting direct from your bank too, without using cards. But it probably wouldn't help much. Within the US, a direct transaction with the bank is usually cheaper than a card (well, at least no processing fee). That's a very good point about just opening my own website. I don't want to put porn on aetusart.com. I know, from a strictly furry perspective, this is silly. But I do have professional associates and clients that peruse the site. Many of them know I do adult art and are fine with it, but I still hesitate to make it a louder thing than necessary. I actually own, currently, several domains/websites for my various activities so adding another completely new one wouldn't be too big a deal. It costs maybe $50/yr to operate but I'd probably have to pay a bit more for some ecommerce stuff to handle automatic subscriptions. I'd also lose the "exposure" that subscription sites supposedly provide-- but I really don' t think any of my subscribers just stumble onto me in Patreon. I'll definitely think more about doing this.

Thanks for providing the numbers and the feedback on not having credit cards, Gruenschnabel. Yeah, 'Murricans definitely are addicted to their CCs, lol. That's fine if you stay here-- I don't plan on shutting down Patreon unless they kick me off! :>

Actually I was more thinking of a word of mouth system, in which you'd use your newly-developed backend (the new website you wrote about recently) to automatically deliver rewards by email directly to your patrons. Another website may be overkill as long as you have Pateron, but it could certainly be useful for long term storage and retrieval of your artwork. Much better than Discord, for example. Still, it can't hurt to open a SubscribeStar if there are no fixed costs and if posting can be automated!
