He reached into back pocket for his phone and put it to his ear, barked, “Get here,” and hung up.

“Who’s that?”

“Mo.”

“Why…?”

“He has medical training.”

It took less than three minutes for Mo to appear in the bathroom. He was dressed similarly to Roth, but in charcoal cargos and a dark long sleeve. His brows were already drawn together when he entered. His eyes flicked from her bloody feet to the wet towels, and then Roth. For the first time, doubt clouded his face. Roth stared at his staff head on, not offering an explanation.

“He didn’t do anything to me,” she interjected into the tense atmosphere.

“Then why are you bleeding?” Mo asked without taking his eyes off his boss who was preternaturally still.

Why did she have the impression he wanted to reach for his gun?

“I had an accident,” she said with a careless shrug neither man saw because they were staring each other down.

“What kind of accident?”

She hesitated, making Mo take his eyes off Roth. Dark eyes that had always been so kind were seething. He was pissed. Not as angry as Roth, but close. She always assumed Roth could do anything to her and he wouldn’t interfere until this moment. He didn’t like what he was seeing. Roth had broken some sacred code that violated Mo’s trust. If he had to, he would go against his boss to get her out.

I’m dying to know more about this scene. How will Roth handle seeing Jas hurt? Love it

Mia, did this scene take place during their stay in the mountains?
