Pleased with everyone’s reactions to her gifts, she got to her feet and took the seat beside Roth. She wasn’t surprised when Bailey crawled into her lap, but she was startled when the little girl plopped into the small gap between her and Roth. He went rigid and stared straight ahead while Bailey asked questions about the castle and shook the globe the moment the glitter settled. Not to be left out of anything, Kye scrambled onto her lap with one of the books and asked her to read it. 

Colette came into the room with Polara just as she was finishing the story. Immediately, she held her arms out for the baby. Colette beamed as she set the baby in her arms and then glanced at Roth, a slight frown marring her brow. Jasmine followed her gaze and saw that Roth was actually leaning over the arm of the chair to put space between him and Bailey, who was completely oblivious to his discomfort.

“Come on, you two. Give them room to breathe,” Colette said and shooed Kye and Bailey off the couch.
