High society chapter (Patreon)

I'm still working on that high society chapter where they make their first official public debut as a married couple. It's turning out to be a three chapter saga. A lot of stuff isn't working on  screen, so I'm constantly reaching for my iPad to write out dialogue and scene structure longhand (attached image is blurred to avoid spoilers from my notes).

This scene is a throwback to their first meet, but 7 years later where their roles have switched in society. Roth is, of course, unphased, while she has a very different take on it. We're meeting a lot of new characters, but there's also a few that were mentioned in that first meet. These chapters are a rollercoaster that end with that preview at the end of Bitter Secrets. There's quite a few reveals that shift the story a bit, so I'm trying to maneuver through all of that and make sure the tone is right. It's taking longer than expected, but that's always the case and it always pays off in the end.

Despite the sweet scenes I've been showing, of course there's still tension in their relationship. It's been difficult going so far to the left and then the right with them. In previous books, we would take a step into "sweet" territory and then get shoved ten feet back into angst-land. This time, the pendulum swings are more extreme and again, this past week I found myself writing another scene in Roth's book to tell his POV of what was happening and why so... It's been interesting, to say the least and in this scene in particular they're not on the same page at a time when they should be since they're in public and should be playing their roles... IDK. I've been kind of tiptoeing through this scene, feeling my way, but now I'm just going to nail it down and come back later and adjust things as needed.
