Rendering takes weeks of continuous work of my computer. For example, this 6 second animation took about 120 hours. I really need to think about upgrading, my 7-years PC is really slow for this  (ס_ס;)

This is mind-bashing awesome. I love it! But we definitely need to get you a faster computer. I mean really...120 hours to render?

eqamrd

Yes, I have plans to update hardware and software. But now rendering process works on the computer all time in low priority, I don't remember when it was turned off :) On average 6 seconds of animation requires 5 days of rendering, i.e. 120 hours.

Do you happen to know the specs for your computer are, like CPU speed, onboard RAM and Hard Drive size?

eqamrd

Current system is: AMD FX8350 processor, 8Gb RAM (DDR3-1600), 120Gb SSD system disk, 1Tb WD data disk. Unfortunately, due software limitations I can't use GPU for rendering (hair not supported yet), so characteristics of the graphics card are not important.

I'm not sure if 3dsMax is configured to take advantage of multi-core processors, but being able to use GPU would be a benefit. So what exactly would you need to improve render time?

eqamrd

3ds max use all cores, 8350 works with this software as 3rd generation i7. But it's still not enough. I'm thinking of changing platform to a Ryzen processor, it's inexpensive and good at multi-core tasks. Also it will lead to change of software versions, but Autodesk can now give 3ds Max for free for three years.

Hmmm...then maybe we need to get you a second computer exclusively for the task of rendering. That way your primary computer is available while the second one spends days on end rendering the animation.
