Paul can't handle the fact that people have different tastes. Not everyone has to like the things you like.

Im a young millenial, which is kind of old now, and there was heavy metal clique at one of the highschools I went too. And i really loved old heavy metal and old rock cuz the pop music of my day was justin beiber and the jonas brothers. So I definelty embraced music I heard when i was really little and discovering older music because the pop music from my youth was horrendous. I definetly experienced the trend of people wearing band shirts of bands they knew nothing about when i went to college. Guns and roses and defleppard shirts are sold in department stores now, and most people who wear them dont care about rock.

R.F. Kuang is a great gen z young writer that writes amazing fantasy books and recently released “Yellowface,” a satirical book that questions if who has the right to write whose stories as well as comments on how harmful the publishing industry and social media is to art. Platforms like Goodreads and Tiktok’s Booktok make it so the “next big book” is only relevant for a second before they are pushing another author or another book series. It’s like the 24 hour news cycle, where we are constantly moving on to the next thing. And because of this, the music and book industries are pressuring successful artists to continuously churn out something new - which stifles creativity. I work at B&N, and I see some of these authors confirm the release date of the sequel to their book that was just released. We have to constantly be consuming media and can’t take a breath and absorb whatever we just read or listened to.

I'm not a Drake fan at all (aside from a couple songs and features) and I think he's wildly overrated. But when you're talking about who's influential or made a more than notable presence in modern pop culture, Drake is definitely up there. When you talk about album sales; streams, derivative post artists and albums, etc. Drake definitely held the torch in that regard. You have to take your personal bias out of the equation when evaluating the influence and reach of bands and artists. I also don't care much for Eazy E but I wouldn't deny his influence and pop culture presence being significant. He was great for what he did but even Dre and DOC have said he couldn't write his own lyrics and needed a lot of help and coaching in the booth. He was far from a natural rapper.
