he had most of the movie already shot. the 4 minutes were only the only reshoots which from what I know were 2 scenes at the very end of the movie. Henry Cavill for example did not return for reshoots so every scene he is in is the original shot before Whedon's reshoots. of course I'm just taking his word on all this but I fully believe it. some scenes not in the original movie but were in early promotional material are back in. not to mention the lady that asked if she was in the movie after being cut from the Whedon version and it's in also.

Fly on the Wall

There was a nearly 4 hour cut sitting there awaiting post production when Zack's daughter tragically passed away. Whedon was then hired to come in and cut the film down to 2 hours which drastically changed the tone and pacing of the film, but even worse Whedon reshot several of Zack's scenes. What you are seeing here is very close to his original vision in 2017. He only had to finish vfx and sound editing and the score. He then came in with a few select actors and shot ONLY 4 minutes of pickups for a few scenes he decided to add in, but most of the original cast was unavailable. It's only a couple of minutes. But the scenes were apparently tied into story boards he did loosely have in mind already. Supposedly. I just finished this 4-hour film on my own the other night, but I'm gonna sit down and watch this reaction because the movie is worth it and I can't wait to see your thoughts on it.

Fly on the Wall

Yeah, Supes death cry had awoken the boxes. Such a unique way to open the film and it explains why the events happen now so much better than Whedon's.

Awesome that you're reacting to this. Personally I loved this cut of the movie.

Zoot!

Random thoughts on the whole thing from someone who doesn't know DC very much at all - I watched this in one sitting the other day, never having seen the original cut, or really any of the movies prior except for the first WW movie. Didn't even know superman had died lol. I found this movie quite enjoyble, didn't feel like 4 hours, but it wasn't mindblowingly good. Seemed like a similar story to Infinity War, so wondering who did it first. I only know Darkseid from one other thing, and this version was pretty different. I know he's super powerful, but in this movie he didn't feel like that. I found myself confusing him with his peons a lot. The design wasn't that powerful. The soundtrack was interesting, but not very memorable. I hummed along with the WW theme. Haven't seen that cyborg character before, really liked him a lot. WW is awesome too - her theme music sticks in my head, and I love her fight scenes. Everyone else was kind meh. Do not like this version of batman at all. Anyways, looking forward to watching the ASR cut for extra commentary on stuff I almost certainly missed in this movie.

Joss Whedon actually re-shot more than 50% of the movie after taking over. and Joss's version did not flow at all, there was no context to a lot of the scenes. This on the other hand the story actually flowed nicely. Just want to add no Shan wasn't thinking we would see CGI henry Cavils face again because that was part of Joss's reshoots. Ohh yeah the aspect ratio is because this was shot for I-MAX, they usually convert in post production for cinemas.

There is only one Justice League movie. This one. That 2017 Josstice abortion is nothing but a miscarriage of Justice.

For me this just confirms how much joss has fallen off after buffy because there almost nothing he done after thats super good.

Walter Alcaraz

Yeah, he was pretty much a mama's boy in the Josstice version. Also, in that version, he had that big axe, but never killed anyone with it. Seemed really idiotic. Here, he's slicing people apart, and blood is spurting from the massive wounds he's creating.

You bringing up Amy Adams' suitability for Lois is interesting as I was just talking to a friend about this earlier today. Our conclusion was that although we both really like her as an actor, we think she was miscast in this role. We couldn't figure out exactly what was off but we agreed that this version of Lois just feels a bit weird.

Is this better? Yes. Is this good? Not really, but people are starved for entertainment right now so... But whatever. Glad people are enjoying this totally not what would have been released as is movie. WB wanted 2 hours. I don’t see this being very good with half of it cut (though it still may be better then Joss’. We’ll never know).

This is NOT cheating! What WB did to the theatrical version, THAT was cheating. They cheated Zack Snyder out of telling the story he wanted to tell, and they cheated us out of seeing a better movie.

In the comics, Darkseid 1st appeared in Jimmy Olsen #134, written and drawn by Jack Kirby (co-creator of most of Marvel). Darkseid vs Jimmy Olsen? Sure, sounds like a fair fight?!? Editor Roy Thomas had the idea for Thanos, who 1st appeared in Iron Man #55, written and drawn by Jim Starlin. After seeing Jim's 1st sketches of Thanos, Roy said to make him look more like Darkseid.

How did WB cheat Zack? WB let Zack break his contract and leave the project unfinished. They must have parted on good terms (or made up later) because both parties agreed to make this version - not cheap, or easy.

The guy at the bank were trying to send Europe back to the Dark Ages. The idea was that area had a bunch of financial institutions and there record storages. By blowing it up they would cause a financial crisis that would upset all Europe. This could cause a recession it wouldn't cause a "return to the Dark Ages.

Yeah, the singing scene when Aquaman leaves Batman was weird to me too. Who were they? Why were they singing? what were they singing? Why is it in the movie?

2021-07-09 10:50:24 I know others have said it but just for the record Snyder didn't get a re-do. Snyder got money to finish VFX on footage he'd already shot back when it was meant to be released (plus 4 minutes of extra footage that is at the end). WB cheated Zack, Geoff Johns used Zack's family tragedy as a way to kick him out the door and get his mate Joss Whedon in to reshoot and rewrite large parts of the film. It's not even that he and WB have made up now and asked him back, it's that AT&T own WB now and they're focussing on HBO Max so they need everything they can to draw people in so they did The Snyder Cut.
