I think you do have a couple of differences between Oliver's situation and Diggle's situation. Oliver is William's only parent left alive, while John Diggle Jr. has both of his parents. The other thing is the Diggle isn't retiring, so he's just asking him to switch from being Spartan, to being the Green Arrow. If Diggle wasn't fighting crime and Oliver had asked him to take his place, I think this would have been more of a problem.

The Arrow\The Hood is not the same person as The Green Arrow. Roy Harper confessed to being the Arrow\The Hood in season 3 and Roy was killed in prison. So Oliver was not cleared of being The Green Arrow, FBI agent was right on that! Also, I don't know how you can miss that point, but John's son also has a mother, so if John dies, well, JJ has Lyla. If Oliver dies, Willias has no parents. They hammered that 'only living parent' point so many times, I don't understand how you didn't get that. Also, John is not the Mayor, not a public figure, not under so much scrutiny, like Oliver, so it should not be as hard for John, as it's hard for Ollie to be The Green Arrow....... Everything makes perfect sense!
