Damon Or Stefan compel = Stunning and Brave Elijah is compelled = Amnesia stories suck! I'm seeing an inconsistency here

AfterShowReactions

What are you talking about? I HATED amnesia Stefan and I HATED when Elena was compelled to forget Damon. No inconsistency at all. I complain about amnesia stories every single time its used in any show.

When did she ever like an amnesia story?

I get where you are coming from, and as a device I hate selective amnesia too. BUT I will say I feel the lengths Elijah went to for his family and the fact no Original could ever have considered "compelling" as an option makes this time more palatable to watch. FYI I just have hated "compelling" as a plot device in general all through this and TVD and wish it wasn't a concept. Hope you love the rest of the season despite your annoyance :)

I get that you hate amnesia story.....but could you try not to shout it so loud and so many times?! As much as you think amnesia is annoying, you shouting that you hate it, over and over, and over again, whilst not listening to the dialogs, that got really annoying, really fast. I loved this episode and I like this storyline for Elijah, he's happy, and that makes me happy. He wanted this, and I want him to have it.......I never cared much about Hayley and Elijah together. And well, the fact that, Antoinette is played by the most beatiful woman in the world, Jaime Murray, also helps me forget about Haylijah really fast. And I would have definitely chosen her, and would've burned my previous life away and embraced this philosophy and lifestyle of being a creature of the night, if she wanted to share it with me)))

i get you don't like amnesia story lines (i don't either ) but you're failing to grasp why this one makes perfect sense. as a mikaelson he was ruthless and would kill and hurt anyone for his family and he was always carrying the burden of being his brothers saviour no matter who he hurts. so he takes his memories away so he doesn't have to feel that pain like when he killed marcel, killing marcel was elijah's final straw really of always and forever and the torment that comes with that bond. i don't think you really understand character development because what he is doing now is literally character development.... him seeing himself as a mikaelson and what destruction comes with it so he takes his memories away then finding some of his memories and still seeing how bad he actually was and not wanting to be that way anymore (that's character development)

What about the Good Place? Initially you seemed upset about it but how do you feel in retrospect?

I dunno , you could also take the view that the reason he asked Marcel to compel him wasn't so he would forget his past deeds, it was because he knew deep down he would never be able to leave Klaus alone in the world willingly (just as Klaus can't let go of Elijah). So he opted for what he felt was his only chance to save his brother and family. Anyways I think we all agree Amnesia plot devices are old hat and are normally just there to sow division or some manufactured conflict. All I am saying this is probably one of the only times I feel it fits with the theme of the show

Youre right, it was all about being able to stay away for his families sake, Elijah said that himself to Marcel in 4x13. He Admits his purpose has always been his brothers redemption and cant help but go to him when his brother needs him....It was never about forgetting the torment.
