The colt was technically last seen in the middle of season 5 when Dean tried to use it to kill Lucifer while he has trying to raise Death only to find out it doesn't work on Angels. Then Lucifer tossed him aside with his telekinesis and Dean dropped the gun in the process and they he and Sam were forced to flee without it

I forgot how much I loved this episode. I'm disappointed you didn't enjoy it. It's actually one of the highest rated of season 12!

So this ep was their way of paying tribute to Reservoir Dogs, Quentin Tarantino's first movie. The song in the title was played during a particularly infamous scene. If you haven't seen the movie, I understand how it was just kind of meh for you.

Also have to say - this one is my favorite episode of the season - story-wise and how it was filmed in a Tarantino movie style. All the episodes directed by Richard Speight are either funny or quite different to the usual episodes. Quite like them a lot.

I don't read episode titles so the first time I watched this episode I completely missed the homage to Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs". But now, the diner scene, the slow mo walk, the out of sequence jumps, the crawling away injured...great job

not sure why they are going with Kill Bill/Django music thou....must be a full on Tarantino tribute.

half way in the episode, and this is definitely a full tarantino tribute, with the "pulp fiction" golden glow from the box opening. And the time jumps are more a la "Jackie Brown or Pulp Fiction" style.

Seems like Mary is portraying the Bride and the demon is Bill (Kill Bill). Cas is portraying Mr. Orange with the torso wound(Resovoir Dogs), The staff the Demon uses on Cas and the wide camera side shot of that scene was straight out of Kill Bill....what a great episode.

Did anyone else get goosebumps when that demon showed yellow eyes?

I literally rewatched the show after this episode to remember the Colt story, so here's a little refresher course lol

In season 6 we see the Colt in a time travel Western episode, Samuel Colt creates the gun and the original 13 bullets, one of which Dean uses on a phoenix to get it's ash and kill present-day Eve. Dean leaves the Colt on the ground which is assumed to be picked up by the bartender Elkins. In season 1 we first see it when a group of vampires kill Daniel Elkins (ancestor of the bartender) and John goes kills the vamps, gets the Colt with the boys. Use it on a vampire or two, a couple demons, and save the last bullet for Azazel. Then they use the last bullet on Azazel in season 2 and they give it to Bobby to see how it works. Ruby shows Bobby how to create more bullets for it in season 3. Boys get it and use it here or there until Bela Talbot steals it out of a half thought out attempt to escape her demon deal with Lilith. She gives it away, presumably to Lilith, and it's not seen for a while. Then season 5 Becky tells Sam that in the books Bela actually gave it to Lilith's right hand, revealed to be Crowley in the next. episode. Crowley tells them to use it on Lucifer, it doesn't work, Cass teleports himself and the boys to safety but Dean left it on the ground. What I believe this episode is aiming to say is that Crowley went back and retrieved the Colt for himself, before giving it to Ramiel of course.

This ep confused me a lot too but now it's one of my favs. Love the Tarantino vibe. Plus the Colt and Lucifer being back gotta love it lol

the hunter at the table with them is the one Mick was talking to a few episodes ago trying to get him to work with the British Men of Letters and he refused. I don't why the times are so hard to follow it's just earlier in the day and later in the day from different peoples perspective. I guess it's confusing to some but I've seen other shows and films like this and you just follow what they are showing it says the time and you can see it from whats happening that its before or after the diner and before and after the fight. Like others had said it's a Tarantino style and the ep homages a lot of his films. I've grown up watching his stuff I was born in 83 and was a teenager and 20s in the 90s and early 2000s so I'm use to seeing this stuff and understood the non-linear story telling and saw the homages as soon as the title cards and slo mo music walking happened and cowboy music also because tarantino homages cowboy films like hero walks, last stands and victory music. It's a different way of giving info. You don't see everything play out in order and you see info you didn't know was happening because your seeing the other characters story too. Also I think yes sometimes other hunters get taken out like red shirts but storywise they have been hunters for along time and have fought a bunch of other monsters and made it through it just happens that this is the time the die. It's just that what ever it is gets a lucky hit in or it overpowers them like this time he said he fought monsters before but the demon just overpowered him and stabbed him. I dunno maybe they could have had him win but that wouldn't end up putting emotional weight on mary for getting him involved. Plus they have shown were Sam and Dean have had stuff happen to them and die or almost die just like any other hunter but it's just story reasons they are saved like mystery spot or like when Same was shot by the werewolves.
