I think the taming down of the show lately was partly due to the network. The show started airing at 8pm and I think that meant they had to make it more friendly to younger viewers. I'm not sure when that change happened though. With this episode, I found the parts with Cas and Crowley more interesting than the ghost hunt Sam, Dean and Mary were on. That felt off somehow. Maybe the boys just need to iron out the kinks of working with the new actress? The rowena and Lucifer part was better for me too, and that's saying something, since I don't like this derivation of Lucifer at all. Rowena seems to have turned a corner and isn't such an evil witch so far this season. I like that, but I don't want her getting too soft. Sassy, bad ass Rowena is cool. I was very unhappy when Mary left. I didn't understand what was going on and why she wouldn't stay and work through things. I kind of get it now, but it's hard to accept still. Or, maybe the writer's just didn't know how to work her into the show? Or the budget didn't allow for it? Or the actress wasn't available? ugh I hope they can work it out, because her leaving hurt my boys. Basically another type of rejection, and that's a big deal for Dean, who already has long history of issues related to feeling rejected and abandoned.
