The father was broken by the death of his wife and couldn't cope. His daughter wanted him to die with dignity, as she said. So she kidnapped Juliette to compel Nick to save her, just like in the myths about dragons. I wasn't very satisfied with that ending when I first saw it. I'm sure they could have done it better. I'm not sure they knew what to do with Juliette at first. She's kind of just there. But her role does get filled out eventually.

The reason the daughter did the whole spinning flame-out at the end is so they would think she killed herself and therefore she could get away.

I do promise they do get more backstory, its just with doing this at one episode a month (plus I didn't pick it every month) its going very slowly. Every episode you've seen so far originally aired in about 3 months. Where you have been watching them for about 18 months. It kinda slows the pace down. But it does get better.

Just be patient cause soon Juliette will have a major storyline & will play a bigger role in the series. The same goes for the other main characters. The show gets much better

First time I watched this episode I hadn't watched the flash, so fun to revisit now that I know Caitlin Snow, also fun that here she had fire powers and in flash she had ice powers
