It probably won't be two years, but I'm on 2x06 and I only watch 2 a week. Plus TO when it comes in. So maybe not two years, but... that's not that far off.

I agree with you that, if Valerie had been Stefan's first love, it wouldn't make sense that we'd never heard of her before. My head-canon on this is that Stefan may have been Valerie's first love, but that for Stefan, Valerie was just an infatuation that he basically forgot about once he met Katherine, and he never really thought of her again until he found out she was one of Lily's heretics.

Outside of Elena and Matt do we really know any characters first love? It's not something that has really been talked about. Most people in the real world become estranged from the friends that knew you'd first love by the time you hit 30. Being 130 would really later that.

I think of it in the same way, that he loved her but it was short and temporary. It didn't have a chance to develop into the kind of love Stefan had with Katherine and Elena, so therefore he's easily forgotten about it. It doesn't stand out to him in his mind the same way as their love does.

Stefan himself referred to her as his first love as well. I just don't think he cared enough about her once it was over to mention it in any of the scenes we saw before. Most of the stories in the first 5 seasons revolved around Katherine in some shape or form so it makes sense to me he'd never bother to talk about Valerie.
