Episode 5 is my favorite. I speak Hebrew so I understood both sides of the conversation, for me this just make the episode funnier. For the last episode I always assume consent. I think it was implied that Susan knew of the tape existance, but I can see how it could be problematic

The last episode was / is / will be a problem. There are other examples of the secret sex recordings troupe and the guy is never a good guy. I think they went a little to far with Patrick's character and tried to defend him with the 'only enough blood to run one thing at a time' defence (Joey in Friends comes to mind).

'The Girl With Two Breasts ' is one of my favourite things ever, and Jeff 's 'ah you can read!' Is amazing. 'As for the Cupboard of Patrick's Love' I have to admit I always assumed it was consensual - he's meant to be the dumb oversized guy in the Joey Tribbiani tradition rather than an outright sleaze. Looking at it now though I do get your reaction and think they probably could have been a lot clearer.

When Jane was saying she saw the cupboard with all the tapes, Susan said, "He keeps the tapes?". So she knew he had made a tape. Whether she had just assumed he would delete it or he lied to her about it, it seems she had consented at the time. That being said, this trope was already old when this was made.

Shan, as a fan both of your reactions and of 'Coupling' I'd maybe advise you turn down further requests for this show. I still think the video taping was very much intended to be consensual (as Scott mentioned Susan knew about the tapes beforehand), but even aside from that I get the feeling you aren't comfortable with the show and as you admitted a lot of the Brit/older references are to things you don't get. It's totally cool. As I said I'm a huge 'Coupling' fan (it legitimately is one of my top ten shows) and even I know not everyone is going to like it and I don't want to watch you slog through a series you just aren't enjoying.

I couldn't agree more. The first episode is one of my favorites of the series, the second one is one of my least favorites of the series.
