I get what you mean about Mac’s background but as a person who has a sister who lost her son I can tell you that they aren’t telling their coworkers about it unless someone asks especially after 10 years. Why would mack bring it up at work when he thought he moved past it. (Ghost rider is what brought the feelings back.) The creators added this story this season but it’s not like we knew Mack’s background before. We are learning it now. We knew about May and Fitz’s since season 1 but that’s because they were main characters.

He actually makes a reference to losing Hope in season three but without the context of us knowing it’s a person. But I liked how we found out. I feel it added more depth to his character.

Aida doesn't care about Hydra. This was just a scenario that managed to fulfill her goal of taking away everyone's regret and her own goal of experiencing being human.
