I love The Guild. One thing to keep in mind is this is not a "show." It was a Youtube series with each weekly episode being only about 4 minutes. It came out during the height of MMORPGs, like the best days of World of Warcraft and when Youtube and nerd culture was not fully established. I don't think it works as good in today's environment, especially when watching an entire "season" as 1 episode. I love all the characters, and their music videos they released, like Would you Date my Avatar and Game On, hold up really well.

BTW, this dates me, but lol used to be said one letter at a time. I'm not sure when it switched to being a single word you say, but I definitely remember saying and hearing l.o.l back in the day.

You're not supposed to like Vork. That's part of the gag. For even more deadpan humor, Jeff Lewis had a youtube series "The Five Minute Comedy Hour" and he's done some stand-up. Folk who think Vork isn't funny should pass on that :)

Not saying what game was done for copyright reasons. Creatively, it works better not knowing...

If I remember correctly then Felicia was supposedly in a pretty dark place for a few years after the Buffy gig. Her real life was not going that well and she ended up really addicted to World of Warcraft. At some point she figured that she should try to turn her addiction into something productive and wrote a script for the Guild, loosely basing it on her own experiences as a hardcore gamer. The first season was basically an amateur production with a very tiny budget, but somehow it became really popular online. This led to four more seasons, three music videos, and Felicia Day becoming known as "Queen of Geeks" (I think some blogger first started referring to her as such and then it became a thing). Later seasons had bigger budgets and cameos from some well known actors and comedians; the final season was officially funded by Microsoft. One of the outcomes of all of this was that she ended up back on the radar of professional acting agencies which is how she was invited to play a role on the Supernatural. The other outcome was the founding of Geek and Sundry, which is basically a Youtube-based media empire with a bunch of its own original series. I guess they are best known for Critical Role these days.

I am so excited about this! :D Also, did you notice the actress who plays Tinkerballa is also in The Good Place.

The way I heard it, it wasn't so much that she was in a dark place, just that she wasn't being offered roles for the types of parts she wanted to play. She was still up for roles just not what she wanted, which was more geeky stuff. But even then she lived modestly enough that she could take the roles she wanted and live off of that for the lean months.

Gonna be honest, I never saw Buffy so whenever Felicia spoke all i heard was Veronica. And if you get that reference i have enormous respect

I really liked this when it came out, but it does not seem to hold up well. Maybe it wasn't ment too. Much easier to take in small doses. Very bold and original way back when, but very much of it's time. That's a very round about way of saying "you had to be there" I guess.

Season 1 was done with almost no budget, but still cracks me up. Later seasons start to look more polished as the show gained in popularity and gained sponsors like Microsoft.

Started watching this because of Felicity Day, but slowly grew to love the boringly normal yet importantly complicated, quirky characters of...this in no way incriminates me right? Its not like I'm reacting to a reaction of...OH!

Not naming the game was for copyright reasons. However it also allowed them to make mention of things that weren't actually in like WOW, to make a joke. Even so there were still commenters saying "Uh, but WOW doesn't have [race, class, ability, etc] that regularly had to be reminded "The game isn't WOW" (even though it was primarily based off of Felicia's experiences playing WOW).

Some trivia: Felicia was in an improv class with the guys who play Vork and Zaboo. The scenes were shot in her actual house. When they were walking into Cheezy Beards, the girl with the guy walking down the street was one of her actual gaming friends who Tink is very loosely based on. The hostess greeting them at Cheezy Beards was 'Zaboo's actual girlfriend at the time. The "my shirts on backward" scene was Felicia actually realizing her shirt was on backwards. Zaboo prepares to leave with a different suitcase than he arrived with because they couldn't find the one they first used. Zaboo's habit of adding 'd to the end of things, like "doorstepped" was from her brother who does the same thing.

You should actually watch the first music video they made after starting this web show. It's called Date My Avatar. It's amazing. https://youtu.be/urNyg1ftMIU
