When Kai turned up it was such a relief - after all the terrible boring and tedious new character in season 5 we finally have someone interesting and charismatic again!

Animal blood is not the reason that Stefan is a ripper. He was a ripper right after he turned, before he ever tried the animal diet. I think when he had Elena's blood in season 1 it made the cravings worse since he hadn't had human blood in so long. Human blood to a ripper is like an addiction. Stefan has learned to control it by drinking only from blood bags. It's harder to control if he drinks straight from the vein. There's a reason that Caroline calls herself Stefan's "sober sponsor".

I agree with you on the flashback parts -- what Damon did was wrong, but I understand it because of everything you said about how vampires act after they get their humanity back. But just because Damon was wrong, doesn't mean Stefan was right. Stefan could have been more understanding and supportive of Damon while he was trying to turn his life around, instead of pushing him right back to his worst behavior. For most of this episode I find Stefan really annoying, both in the flashbacks and in the present day. But when we get towards the end of the episode, 2 things happen that make me a lot more sympathetic to him in the present day storyline. First, how upset he was with Elena for compelling away her memories of Damon and second when we see him working on restoring Damon’s car. Earlier, when Elena had asked him why he was working as an auto mechanic, he said no reason, but clearly there was a reason, and it was restoring Damon’s car. Those 2 things just made me feel like, while I can’t support the way he’s acting, clearly he is really struggling with losing Damon a lot more than I had realized previously. It’s kind of how I feel about Damon in the 1994 flashbacks -- the way he handled things was all kinds of wrong, but I still feel sympathetic for him not being able to handle his emotions.

I don't think that's true. Unless all vampires are rippers right after they turn. We've watched Carolina and Elena both struggle with being able to control their blood lust, but they both did learn, and they learned by feeding on human blood. I think Damon is right that Stefan's real problem has never been human blood, but rather the fact that he never learned to control it -- he's lived his life either at one extreme or the other, but never learned moderation.

Why do even start with this - "Why didn't Stefan feeds on people?" - He can't - he goes ripper,and "no" he can't change ....

He does feed on human blood. All the time. Not straight from the vein, but for at least most of the last season, we've seen him feeding on human blood from blood bags, not animal blood.

you will defend any obscene thing damon does. he's about to feed on a pregnant woman and your response is "well stefan should've treated him better". yikes. also comparing stefan wanting to kill klaus when his emotions came back to damon murdering innocents is ridiculous. it's NOT even close to the same thing. i don't blame stefan for wanting nothing to do with him.

i am not defending damon, i literally said i wasn't. I am complaining about Stefan being a shitty brother in giving up on him so easily when we have seen he CAN change and the fact that Stefan gave up on him is WHY he went and killed all those people. SO DAMON WAS FEEDING ON PEOPLE, he wasn't KILLING them. He was snatch eat erasing - which is what they do now basically so???
