Oh my God, it’s here!

seekingoutfriday

I know Shan mentioned (jokingly) being disappointed Spuffy was the only one not having sex, but that's what made it mean the most out of everyone, imo. They were all trying to grasp at something - anything - whereas Spuffy was holding onto something, each other. Also, season 6 was all about their physical connection, with little emotional connection. We've reached the pinnacle moment now of their emotional connection, however. Touched - as a Spuffy fan - means more to me than their sex scenes, personally.

Anonymous

Cant' wait for what I assume will be some great Spuffy feels from Shan. :)

Anonymous

There's also replica Buffy stakes - the axe is so very much cooler looking.

Once again, we have Spike being the "truth teller", as it was. He dressed down the Scoobies for betraying Buffy (much needed) and he told Buffy the truth about who she really was when she was doubting herself. His speech to her was one of the best in the entire series, for emotional impact. I knew Shan would shed some tears there - just like I do every time I watch that scene. :)

Holi117

so, so excited for the last 2 episodes of season 7... and I loved that all the spuffy melted your heart! YAY! Watching this, I literally JUST caught some metaphor... Buffy is feeling strong, she has determination and clarity, and she is fighting in the bright warm light... meanwhile the others are literally fumbling around in the dark, uncertain and a little lost because of the big changes they brought about. In the end, Buffy was right and was fighting at her best, while the others were lead by the first and the bringers false info, and ended up in a trap!

Anonymous

Bingo. I have always seen those contrasting scenes like you just described them. Now it's Faith that has unknowingly lead them into a trap, just like Buffy did last time. And just because the troops didn't like the way one battle went, it's no excuse for a mutiny!!!

Second_Strike

First ever lesbian sex scene on network TV! It's weird when you think about how far the show came. From S4 when they had to use magic as a stand-in for gay intimacy due to network pressure.

Ryan Wilson

If you like slow-motion scenes you should watch The Legend of Hercules. Hahaha

Claire Eyles

Out of the all the couples in this episode, I have to admit I had the most respect for Spike with Buffy, and Kennedy with Willow.

Spike's unconditional declaration of love to Buffy hits me right in the feelings.

Anonymous

Season 6 when we finally got Spuffy it was pure sexual magnetism and it wasn’t quite right. Spikes speech and them cuddling is how it should of been all along, it’s pure and he basically was bearing his soul to her.

Khanach

Spike's speech being the highlight of the episode and all, I think the dialogue lines feel much sharper and on character than in the previous episode. I love especially Faith's heel line, Xander's anonymous letter and Spike's Monty Python reference with the comfy chair. Only two to go. What a ride it's being! Thank you for that

Allan Cornett

The Spike/Buffy scene is one of my favorites of the entire series. Spike has grown so much that he now understands real love. Caleb being a vessel for the First power Shan means Caleb’s strength comes from the First.

Judson

Hot take: I get that they were trying to show that even great leaders can fall into traps by having both Buffy and Faith lose girls to schemes by The First. But the actual circumstances the writers came up with for Buffy and Faith aren't similar at all. Caleb presented Buffy with a dare to engage him in battle at the vineyard, with multiple people pointing out that it might be a trap to Buffy but she decided to go anyway. With Faith, they sought out and captured a bringer themselves and used a resourceful spell to extract info from him; pretty hard to predict that the FIrst could have foreseen them doing that and being led to the bomb trap. Also, Buffy's plan to bring everyone back in for another battle with Caleb would have led to more deaths. She succeeded in getting the scythe here because she went in alone, allowing her to play defensive and evade Caleb and focus on getting to the scythe rather than fighting him head on. That tactic would be off the table if the whole gang of potentials had gone back to the vineyard like Buffy wanted. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the character of Buffy is a great leader, has the noblest intentions and is undoubtedly a hero. But this story arc, which was designed to highlight those traits in her, didn't really work because the circumstances they chose to present don't really show Buffy to be in the right if you think about them too much.

cil

SMG has openly stated that she disagreed with the way Spuffy was handled in season 6 and that she thought some of their sex scenes were too much. The writers agreed and purposely chose not to show Spuffy having sex in this episode and focus more on their emotional connection.

Jeszebel Black

ill admit this ep i usually skip as i find it infuriatingly badly written.. its out of character for so many of them do go along with this no questions asked. ugh.

Anonymous

Great reaction. Can't believe it only a couple eps left. I like Spike stick up for Buffy and been there to raise her up. See u in the next ones.

Jarrod Wild

Love all the Spuffy stuff and Robert Duncan's gorgeous Spuffy theme! That uplifting speech Spike gives to Buffy makes me tear up too, every time.

Joss also wrote a comic called Fray, about a Slayer set in a future time (with air-cars and everything) that featured this weapon. So I was like "It's the weapon from the comic!'

Jason Veevaert

This is my personal favorite Spuffy moment :) and if you want to know more about that scythe at the end you should read whedon's fray story (talks more about the weapon)

Dan H

Buffy wasn't right - luring her into another frontal assault would have been exactly the disaster her friends were warning. She succeeded because she went alone and neither the First nor Caleb expected it at that point

Rey Gallogo

Sure Buffy has saved them over and over again but her friends have saved her over and over again.

Fly on the Wall

Exactly. People always take Buffy's side at the end of Empty Places without examining what he laid out here. If Buffy had taken them back to the Vineyard there would been many more causalities and injuries and who knows if Buffy would have been able to get the Scythe having to worrying about the safety of the girls. The plan only worked because Buffy went alone. First is certainly good at laying traps for our slayers to fall into and I'm they showed that plurality for both. It's not anymore Faith's fault than it was Buffy's before her. The key is to learn from your mistake and not repeat it.

Fly on the Wall

Buffy was right, but so was everyone else. Someone above me said it much better than I probably will so I'll keep it brief. Caleb had what she wanted, but he didn't fear them at all coming for it. No more so than he did the first time he lured her there. If Buffy had arrived with the girls there undoubtedly would have been more causalities and injuries suffered. We also saw how Buffy handled that situation. She went alone and outmaneuvered Caleb. The only reason she got past him and got to what was there was by being by herself and using her quickness to her advantage. I don't think if she arrived with the potentials any of that would have happened and even if it did, not without the causalities and aforementioned injuries. Buffy should have gone alone or at the very least gone with only herself and Faith. Buffy didn't even bring Spike along because she realized she couldn't put anyone else at risk this time.

Spuffy Forever!

MittenCrab

A wonderful reaction somewhat ruined by ASR's reluctance to make a smutty pun on the principal's name when he was getting it on with Faith. An opportunity missed.

UTU49

"... and he basically was bearing his soul to her." Which he was not capable of in season 6.

HuntingSwan

This episode was when I got on board with Spuffy. With 2 whole episodes left! But I really love them from this point on. When Spike says 'I've seen the best and the worst of her', it's so true. He saw her sacrifice herself in the S5 finale and then during season 6 she was less than her heroic self. So him loving her means so much more. I'm team Spuffy now!

There is a copy of Buffy's propnote to Spike on photobucket. I don't know if this link will work properly but you can always copy/paste. https://photobucket.com/gallery/user/egustafs19/media/cGF0aDovQnVmZnlzbm90ZS5qcGc=/?ref=

Since the beginning, Buffy has tried to keep the slaying part of her life separate from everything else. Kendra challenged her about that: “You talk about slaying like it's a job. It's not. It's who you are.” Giles explained that it took all of Buffy to make her a complete person. In his return in season six, Riley used a lot of the words Spike uses this episode. He said that Buffy's circumstances didn't determine who she was. “You are a hell of a woman” he said, “the strongest woman I've even known.” Finally Spike said it and Buffy took it to heart. There is no such thing as 'Buffy the slayer' and 'Buffy the person'. For better or worse, she's just Buffy. Slayer, daughter, sister, friend. Then she gets a good night's rest and goes off to be the one and only Buffy Summers. No more having to worry about protecting noobs in a fight or pretending to be a general (or Maggie Walsh). Buffy just goes and does what she actually has been doing for seven years. She gets it done. Now, we can hopefully find out what that Pretty Shiny Thing was at the end.

I’m still praying Shan will take up Xena when Buffy ends, it’s so iconic!

Richard Lucas

I appreciate it, but I still ache inside for it not being Tara. I’m so glad she chose not to reprise her role in season 7 of Buffy as an illusion of the First.

Richard Lucas

Shan, can you talk a bit at the start of the next episode about what you think will happen in the final two episodes please. 1) Will the good guys win like they always do in Buffy? 2) or will the ending be bittersweet, as GRRM has promised the book version of GoT will be? 3) or will the ending live up to the GoT quote “if you’re looking for a happy ending, you’ve come to the wrong place”?

Michael Roach

One of my favorite parts of this episode is Spike walking out of the house after the fight, standing there for a second and just sniffing the air, it was just...cool.

I can't agree with SMG's opinion on season 6, because the whole point of the relationship they had at that point was that it was wrong and self-destructive. If they had been going for a great love, she'd be right, but considering they were going for anything but that, I think they handled it just right in season 6. And I think they handled it right here, showing the start contrast between the wrong, self-destructive relationship they had in season 6 and the supportive and empowering relationship they have developed over the course of season 7.

Ron Fehr

Shan. Love your views on Faith's growth as a character. It was nice to see her in charge. Before, she had always wanted to be the one in charge. Now she wasn't very fond of the idea. She still did what she had to do, but did so with less enthusiasm than she would have done in the past.

Melazond

I get that we don't want to spend too long with agony, but when I scratched my cornea I was in pain for 2 weeks. It seems like Xander is pretty bouncy for someone who had a vital sensory organ gouged out of his face. This never bothered me before.

KiwiJello

I always imagined they gave him good pain pills. Helps take the edge off the eye pain and the apocalypse! ;)

Anonymous

Very true, Spike has been there to witness Buffy's big moments since season 2, and now because of season 6, he got to see her at her worst. Spike understands her now, better than anyone else in this show at this point, he understands some of the demons that plague her.

o

I always thought at this point and time that Willow was so powerful that she helped numb his pain magically. I don't know why, I just always did......

Loves Bitca

Love the reaction to the Spike and Faith Fight scene. "oh no my two favorite characters are fighting, that's not good....... Wait a minute, this is pretty awesome.

Anonymous

I'm an ophthalmology resident. That kind of trauma to Xander is differrent from scratching corneas. The surgery made probably was an evisceration or enucleation. Many patients I've seen don't complain about heavy pain or something like that, just little pain or discomfort that respond to pain killers, so I guess Xander reactions are pretty normal.

Melazond

yeah I guess it's like the difference between a papercut and losing a hand! I'm just imagining my own mental anguish if I lost my sight. But I don't live in the Buffyverse and have to fight immediate evil.

Anonymous

Yeah this episode brought my Spuffy heart back to life. *sigh* I knew I had to watch your reaction to that particular scene where Spike's squatting in front of Buffy saying those poignant lines "A hundred plus years and there's only one thing I've ever been sure of: YOU." And then followed by a couple more beautiful, touching lines that I don't think I've heard anywhere else in any show that made me wish one person in this world would say to me: "When I say I love you, it's not because I want you because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are. What you do. How you try. " And the tears rolled down her face as he said it. Ugh. I just can't... 😭😭😭 yeah hence why I joined Patreon. I gotta see how you reacted to this! 😆
