What always irks me is that everyone is sad that Mal "cheats" on Inara. She on average has been having sex a least twice a month the entire time on Serenity, whereas he hasn't had any ( according to the "Our Mrs. Reynolds episode.") So Mal has been patiently waiting around for a year without any sexual relations for this 'unrequited love.' I understand Inara's crying over it , but she put herself in that situation, which is what I think she was crying over. Which is partly why she feels she needs to leave. There's another reason that adds on to why she does what she does but it was never revealed in the series, and ignored in the movie. Having said all that , I really like the episode, and showing Mal and Inara's complicated relationship.

Melinda Clarke also had a recurring role on CSI, which is what I think of her from, and yes it was basically the same role again.

Of course when Shepherd Book said that he had been following in the footsteps of a carpenter, he was referring to Jesus Christ, whose earthly father, Joseph, was also a carpenter.

I can see why you feel cheated by what they show between Mal and Inara. We aren't given much and so we try to make assumptions that don't seem fair like Inara acting like he cheated on her or Mal acting like he doesn't care if she leaves. There's more going on inside the inner lives of the individual characters that I think would explain this maddening denial but they didn't have enough show to show it :/
