Powerful episode. The uber-vamp really did a number on her, which made her resolve and speech and the end so epic! Loved Spike's resolve as well. Both he and Buffy at the end telling us they will not be moved! Great stuff.

I love Anya's muttering as she washes the dishes. Don't think I've ever seen a script with what she's saying written down.

When Buffy staked the UberVamp and it didn't go 'poof.' her confidence drains away, IMO, as it did in the middle of 4-1 when she felt so lost going against Sunday and her gang. Buffy without her confidence is not usually successful. Plus, as Shan said, she does need better sleep habits: Ep 7 CONVERSATIONS WITH DEAD PEOPLE 8:01 pm November 12, 2002 - night 1 (Fights Webster) Ep 8 SLEEPER night 1 (cont.) (visits Xander's apartment) day 2 (arrives home) (work?) night 2 (following Spike) day 3 (researching missing people) (work?) night 3 (Buffy meets Spike in the cellar) Ep 9 NEVER LEAVE ME Shooting script: We're continuing where we left off in Episode Eight -- same night, a little later. Night 3 (Buffy brings Spike to her house) day 4 (Dawn tells Principal Wood that Buffy is sick) night 4 (Bringers attack) Ep 10 BRING ON THE NIGHT Shooting script: the living room still shows a ton of evidence of the attack of the bringers...It's clear that the night has been spent working hard and people are anxious and tired... night 4 (cont.) (Cleaning house again/Buffy dozes off & Joyce appears) day 5 (Willow tries magic/Buffy covers the seal/Giles returns) night 5 (Buffy encounters the Turok Han) day 6 (back to work/Buffy dozes off again & Joyce returns) night 6 (Annabelle killed/ Buffy beaten badly by Turok-Han) There are places where Buffy might have gotten some sleep off-camera but nothing regular. Regardless of how strong the UberVamp is, without sleep or her usual confidence, it's no wonder Buffy took such a beat down.

Buffy could quit her counseling job and become a motivational speaker.

Oh man that cockney potential. I hate to think what ASH was thinking as she used that accent. Cor Blimey guvna, anyone wanna watch Mary Poppins?

Andrew Pulrang

On Buffy being especially battered ... Does the ER in Sunnyvale has a special procedure for dealing with injuries from vampires and demons? If the medical people in that town are like everyone else, they compartmentalize the whole thing, note that the injuries are *that* kind, and just focus on fixing them, NEVER on looking too deeply into what they all mean. So they could potentially take Buffy in if she really WAS in trouble and she might actually just be treated and released without being asked too many questions about how she got so beaten.

Never mind the reaction, let's see the new desk!!

I think they must... didn't Joyce say something in "Gingerbread" about "How many of you know people who've died from neck rupture?" So that must be what they call it.

Timotey Kuhn

So the barking wasn't part of the show... natch....:P

Timotey Kuhn

Hmmmmmmm... I wonder where there's going to be a very easy edit taking place.... Hahahaha!!

You've jumped the gun in another way you haven't realised. ( i.e check FD"s Imdb for appearances elsewhere)

And there we have it. My most favorite thing in the entire Buffyverse, the Bring On the Night speech. Every time I hear it, it gives me chills. It's such a great moment. But what really makes it great is the fact that it such a concise distillation of who Buffy is as a person. She has just been beaten, bloodied, and broken. She is absolutely terrified of what having the fight The First means. But not only does she not give up, she declares war.

I think the reason for showing the date at the beginning of 'Conversations with Dead People' was so that we could have a timeline, and have this episode occur around Christmastime.

I think that the ubervamp left Buffy alive because she has to be the very last Slayer left. If she dies (and Faith too), one of the potentials would automatically become the next Slayer. Thus eliminating the potentials and Faith first would leave nobody to succeed Buffy.

Melazond

I never noticed the resemblance to the end of Terminator before when she's being chased by the ubervamp. Except that she didn't turn all the machines on etc... But it does give me that same feeling of it being utterly unstoppable. I wonder if that was intentional.

HuntingSwan

It's never explained in the show why the First wants to leave Buffy till last. Yes it wants to kill all the potentials and then the active slayers last but it had the chance to kill the strongest, most experienced slayer and it didn't. It would surely have been much easier to kill a noob slayer like the British girls than Buffy so why keep her alive? The next episode gives us a clue. Buffy being resurrected has interfered with the line of potentials. It was a mystical rebirth in season 6, not a physical resuscitation like in season 1. Essentially they had to recreate a slayer out of a corpse. The energy used to restore Buffy as a slayer has blocked the creation of new potentials who are also created at birth. Thus as long as Buffy lives there is a finite supply of potentials that the First can wipe out entirely. It's like a bottleneck of slayer mojo. Anyway that's my theory, not a spoiler since the show never tells us for sure what the deal is.
