Early Shan! You get a gold star honey!

"right near each other" California is a big state. Ive heard fans compare Sunnydale to Santa Barbra though I think its got a much more of a small town vibe than that and is probably more inland based on how they only ever go to the beach twice. But even SB is a 2-3 hour drive from LA. lol while you were wondering this they talked about how surrounding areas weren't affected. BTW congrats of getting episodes up earlier!

I have only two words: “he’s back” 😍

Fly on the Wall

The shaman had to trick Angel into believing he had achieved his moment of perfect happiness. Which to a more mature Angel meant not just getting the girl but making up with his friends, having his son love and respect him, killing the big bad beastie and saving the city, and then finally getting to sleep with Cordelia. It was pretty brilliant.

Great reaction to just about every part of the fake-out. At least by the time we got to Cordy's 'evil is smarter' bit, we could see/hear your distrust of what was happening grow. "Bangel moment" indeed.

At this point in the series, I was convinced there was no way to get Angelus back... because when you think about who Angel is and how he always holds onto his guilt, he'd never consciously allow himself to feel perfectly happy again. Now that he knows how the curse works, he'd always have it in the back of his mind. So, I thought this was brilliant. They had to get through to his unconscious mind to bypass his conscious thoughts.

ASR: "So none of it was real?!" You'd better believe it...Bobby Ewing just came out the shower... ...and Spike is now the one, true vampire with a soul.

Great reaction. He here!

The whole illusion was created to give Angel a moment of true happiness. The Beast was defeated, the sun was brought back, Wes and Gunn made up, Connor came around to loving his dad, and Angel finally got to sleep with Cordy, the whole thing was concocted by the shaman to trick Angel into being happy. I remember thinking it was lame when it first aired, that the whole episode from 15 minutes onward was all fake, but its kind of genius

For me, there is so much character development in Angel. Angel has grown to care about so much more than he did in Buffy. At that point he was a lost, brooding loner who saw Buffy as one of the few, if not the only bright point in his life. By this point, he's grown to trust people, form bonds, let people in, and see the bigger picture. That's why it's not just the sex that would give him the moment of perfect happiness. He's moved from codependency to community.

Shan, your face at the end sums up the entire feeling of watching this! At least you've learned the most important lesson of all "NEVER *NEVER* TRUST HAPPY MOMENTS FROM JOSS!!!!!!!!!!" :)

UTU49

Hey, Shan. A twist ending that was probably impossible to see coming. But you DID sense that things were "off"... which was pretty cool. On rewatch, I find this episode sad, because of the vast difference between the way things ARE... and Angel's fantasy world where everyone is at peace with each other.

Oh man, I remember Larry McCormick and Hal Fishman from KTLA channel 5 news in southern California. I used to love it when they'd appear in shows and movies from back then. RIP to both of them.

I don’t know if you caught this ASR, and Idk if this is confirmed, but I always believed that in that last moment when Angel starts to feel his soul slip away he quickly mumbles: “Buffy...”. Like in that moment he’s going through so much pain and distress that the last time he’s felt that exact sensation was when he lost his soul sleeping with Buffy, so he just blurts it out as a reflex. Does anyone else think that way? Or did he say something else?

UTU49

I'm pretty sure he says, "Buffy". That's what I heard... and I've never second-guessed it. I'm going to listen to it again since you have doubts.

I fell for it...now I'm wiser!

At first, I was upset too that none of what happened after the Shaman was in the cage at first was real but then towards the end, I was like yeah, shit is ending up too quick, convenient and cheery for it to be real. Connor finally accepts Cangel? The Beast just shows up out of nowhere? He is defeated that quick with no one seriously hurt? Wes and Gunn make up? Yeah, it was obvious that something was off.

Hef

It's an absolute joy to watch you react to episodes like this one with obvious enthusiasm for the show mixed with a "clued-on" scepticism when things seem to be going a little too well. :)

Hef

Guess who's back, back again. Angelus is back, tell a friend. :P

Ron Fehr

"Wood. Why did it have to be wood?" Reminds me of a line from Raiders of the Lost Ark. "Snakes" instead of "wood".

For an apology, Wesley could try: "Gee, I'm sorry I kidnapped your son".

Einar Sigurðsson

this is why I adore season 4. Great reaction, you could see you were suspecting a twist, but not this one. Your reaction to the end was golden

Holi117

i love this episode... that mystic literally fixes every little problem angel and the gang has, so that he can achieve perfect happiness and lose his soul lol. Because just sex doesn't do it... the birth of his son didn't work because of all the other drama and worry and everything... Its such a clever episode, and at the same time, such a kick in the face lol

Holi117

omg, i never even thought about that. Spike IS the one true vampire with a soul right now lol! YAY!

Diiirk706

D'awwwwwwwww; yer so dumB it's cute............
