I love how much you hate Matt Frewer's "Australian" accent. :) He also used a weird "accent" as Max Headroom. That's sort of his thing, I guess. I'm noticing there's a lot of good TV series that start out with confusing pilots that explain a couple things near the end of the episode.

Thanks for giving it a chance Shan! Your reaction to the ridiculous Australian accent was great. I like that actor but that accent is cartoonishly horrendous. I don't really know if the show is smart [maybe??], it just might be about how much genre sci-fi TV you've seen. It is very much a genre sci-fi show, so it might have a narrower appeal. I love the show and characters, particularly Jo and the new sheriff.

Eureka! I LOVE this show. If you pick this up after you finish Buffy I'm definitely staying ;)

ASR: "He is puttin on an Austruylian accent...and thaht's nawt whaht we sound loike!" But he says 'mate' a lot. Isn't that all there is to it?

The pilot was a lot slower paced than the actual show ends up becoming. I think it hinders the plot because it takes too long to get to the point and causes a lot of confusion. It should have only been a regular length ep, in my opinion. This show has some great characters though that, I think, really grow on you. It’s a show that I think needs a few episodes to find better footing. If you’re ever interested in giving it another chance, I would say give it a few more eps to see if it can pull you in.

Out of curiosity, did you ever watch Avatar the Last Airbender, Korra, and The Dragon Prince? Cause you should. :)

Oh?...daughter?...OH!...I really grew to love this show. (Read possible replacement show down the track) it has drama and comedy and it doesn't take itself too seriously. And you can start to tell the actors/ress-es/ writers are having an embarrassingly amount of fun making it. Plus annoying ozzy accents to respond to...Think about it?

Anonymous

Seriously, you have to learn to not take it seriously.

dunno if it makes any difference but taggart is a new zealander not an aussie

i was a fan of this show. It had a lot of quirky but fun characters, and the plots were usually very entertaining.

WB

You’re reactions to the accent were hilarious. Try being from the south in the US and your accent will be butchered daily on TV. This show is pretty silly a lot of the time, but is also pretty entertaining.

I think it's supposed to be kind of like the X-files meets Northern Exposure. Although that might be too old a reference to get! I just started rewatching this on my own, and I do enjoy it a lot. He's supposed to balance out the super smart scientists with his grumpy practicality. They were all so wrapped up in the phenomenon that had obviously happened with the camper, they weren't thinking small scale like the kid hiding in the storage...under bench...place. I don't know what to call that either.

Imagine how I feel hearing people trying to do any English accent (There are more then 2 english accents and all we hear on american shows are cockney and posh or RP to give it the proper name and they are rarely done well) Was funny watching you get so annoyed Lol

Yeah I didn't understand it but it one hell of a show, its in my top 10 shows. It just gets better and better.

Another fave show of mine. The pilot really moves slow. Once it finds its rhythm it's really a fun show; a lot of good character moments. And it isn't afraid to reinvent itself every now and again. There are a few characters they add later on that I think really add to the show. One of my fave actresses shows up in one of the later seasons. The science in the show is mostly pure fiction. So if it goes over your head, I think that is pretty much what they intended. Usually I prefer my science fiction to be a little more rooted in science, but the character moments and the comedy are pretty much what drive this show. The "sciency-ish" stuff kinda takes a back seat to that stuff.

BJ Stephens

This is by far one of my favorite shows, probably top 10 of all time, once you get into it you fall in love with the characters and charm of the setting imo.

Talon Karrde

Oh I hope this show gets picked up one day years from now
