It’s been a long year full of uncertainty. So glad we can finally share these pics with you from our journey through the past 9 months as our well has been running dry. Life has been real and vividly difficult through this transition for our farm. We filed with the USDA to forgive our mortgage for 2021 (disaster relief) due to the pandemic/disaster. The effects of Covid reach far and are deep rooted. Our drilling company (the only company that called back) has supported us through this time by writing a letter on our behalf to the USDA explaining that they were unable to drill our well for 9 months past the well being diagnosed as “running dry” due to delays in delivery of parts for their drilling truck which caused us to lose an entire year of farming income because we couldn’t water the garden without depriving ourselves of the little bit of water we have been able to draw up. We have had about 5 minutes of water usage per day since July 2021. We quickly fill all the buckets and tanks before the pressure does slow to a stop. It takes 24 hours for the well water cell to refill. It’s been scary and at times we discussed the very real possibility of abandoning the land. That’s the reality of being in a place with limited options in drillers! And no wonder! Those machines are a magnificent piece of engineering that we’re in awe of.

It’s been over a month since the drillers began working and we encountered several cave ins and reached an underground river which blew a strong wind up through the original well. For that reason we had to abandon the original well completely and move over several feet. We chose the spot with blind faith and after weeks of drilling they’ve finally reached their goal of 200’ and are now cleaning out the casings in preparation for the pump to be installed! Still no water from the new well but the inevitability and faith in our drillers has given us a much needed rest and peace of mind…Finally! At last! We have a well! A new one, a really deep one! The only unfortunate part is wanting to bear hug our drillers and not being able to because they’ve flown off to the next challenge! We’re just so grateful for everyone who has stuck with us through this huge farm and life transition period! Drillers included! We appreciate every piece of support and energy we’ve received from our Patrons and we’re so thankful that even though we lost a year of farming our music and our Farm Animal Sanctuary were unaffected by the deficit and are safe, stable and moving steadily…even if at a (🐌👟) Our animals are life and everything revolves around their well being. We promised them a safe home and retirement so having a functioning well is central to that promise. We are just pleased as peach that this phase of no water is coming to a close! Thank you for being here through it!
