Hey guys! I hope you're all having a fine day!  :>

Monthly Poll

I would like to ask you guys for some advice in regards to the monthly polls. I've noticed that each poll has a tendency of having.... well, a giant list of characters. As I get new supporters, I get new suggestions, and eventually, I won't be able to fill both polls, and adding a third is overdoing it. This can be a bit frustrating for some, because several characters fall to the risk of being overlooked. Although, the Loser's chance poll is there to solve that issue, I still believe that the list can be a bit disorienting, given how many characters are suggested. I wanna make sure that everyone gets to enjoy my content and that everyone gets to have a chance every now and then.

So I'll cut to the chase!

I would like to ask you guys,

  • Do you find the current polling system working well for you?
  • Do you believe that there are ways to improve it? If so, how could you improve it?

I appreciate every answer I get as they can help me ensure everyone gets to enjoy and have greater accessibility to the Monthly polls without any complications.

Dropbox

I would like to apologize for the lack of Dropbox folders. I decided not to make one for February as I believed the previous month lacked in content. After thinking through, I believe that it would be better to merge the February folder with the March folder.

The PSD files for February will also be combined with PSD folder for March.

An easy fix could be instead of 2 polls just ask everyone at the start of the month to nominate a character and then say the top 2 or 3 from that poll get done through the month. That way newer supporters have their say as well and everyone who votes gets theirs. You could simply see how u do for the month and if you have time at the end do a bonus one or something. Obviously don't over do it on our account to try and please everyone :)

I would like the polls to be condensed down to maybe 5 options, with a mix of popular and lesser known characters. That way, it will be easier to decide between the options and there is usually an option for everyone. I know there are some polls I didn't vote on because I only recognized 1-2 characters from the list of 10+.

BigBoi99

I'm not sure how plausible this would be, but maybe instead of putting a bunch of characters onto two long polls, you take everyone's suggested characters and you put them on a list, and then when you start a new a poll, you take a bunch from your list and ask people to vote on those. When those are voted on, you start a new poll with different characters, and it repeats until the list is empty, then ask for new characters. By doing it that way, you shorten the list, and you gurantee that everyone's character shows up (not right away granted, but eventually).

I think that a culling might be in order. You’re the one in the driver’s seat, I think you should get first pick. Only include like ten or so of your favorites of the suggestions, ones you really want to draw, and then let us vote on those. Plenty of other artists use a curated method like that.

KingHomeless17

The current polling system still works fine. Regardless of how many characters get added into and many losing, everyone gets a fair chance in winning. Some creators try doing a roulette wheel just to makes things interesting and fair for everyone. I don't know if you feel cool with that but it is a suggestion and it would spice up everyone's interest.

Dawho555

I'm a firm believer in the artist having creative control and making things convenient for themselves. I think that creates the best ecosystem for them to comfortably create. I'd also argue that by having so many options in the poll, it really dilutes the value of a patron having input at all. I'd say access to your art alone is much more valuable than the 1/100 chance of having one's poll character picked. It's nice that you try to include everybody, but I'd honestly prefer seeing you work with characters you yourself are inspired to work with, and you just give your Patrons a vote on which series you go with each month. Then you take your own inspiration and maybe refine the scenario and character selection with more polls if need be. This of course might not fit into the vision you have for your Patreon, this is simply what I'd enjoy seeing as both a fellow creator and consumer!

Wow, I was just thinking about this the other day! I still say get the polls down to 10 characters that you like the most from the suggestions and have the loser polls be between five and ten. Other then that the voting and extra points work very well

bagelbombed

To condense the polls would definitely be a viable option, the question is, what happens to every other character that is suggested and then excluded?

Anonymous

if only patreon had a ranked voting system, so you could put who you actually want to win as your top choice and then your compromises after that,, i know there hav been plenty of time for me where i choose an option and see that it’s got like no chance in hell of winning lmao.,, maybe there’s another polling site that you can use hmmm

Chrissea1

The polls have gotten a little unwieldly. One idea I had was to change the nature of the polls. Rather than just asking for any character each month, ask for certain characteristics, such as hair color, having special powers, being the lead female character, etc...

Yuushino 優シノ

Im new to this but from the emotions i felt. While suggesting was a very desperate feeling so id say making it like a randomized raffle where you enter a few characters in a hat and pick 5-20 of them

Swamplon

Make the polls more exclusive. Make all subsequent polls have a topic and stick to it scrupulously. For example, a swimsuit, rather than suggesting anyone, only characters with official swimwear appearances are eligible. Let bunnygirl be the second example, only characters with official appearance with bunnygirl outfits or characters with rabbit ears are eligible. You can ask patrons for links to images that contain characters and their specific traits or outfits. Then you can make a collage with numbered characters so that everyone, at least in appearance, knows who to vote for. And maybe apart from the characters, let the whole franchise have a cooldown period (That Genshin everywhere).

bagelbombed

Yeah, that's probably a better idea. As for cooldown period, I don't apply that mechanic to characters that I draw by my own will; most of the Genshin characters so far were drawn because I wanted to.

bagelbombed

In other words, we specifically make a thematic poll each month catering to one specific characteristic. For example, tsundere character? Now that could be a good compromise

Parhelion

Maybe you could limit nominations to a certain tier, which would cut significantly on the excess pool of characters and promote more carefully thought out nominations?

FullMetalPanicAttack

I agree. I think only higher tier patrons should be able to suggest characters. That’s how I see other artists doing it. Also, I think characters you’ve already drawn should be excluded from polls. For example; pyra is winning the first half of the current poll...despite the fact that you’ve drawn her at least twice already.

Chrissea1

Not directly related to characters but I could imagine polls on scenarios, bondage ties (frog, hog, suspension), and props (wooden horse, spreader bar, a cross) might be pretty fun

AmorIncorporated

I'm very much of the mind that you should have as much latitude as possible to create what YOU want to create. Polls can be a great way to foster community engagement, but only up to a point. I would honestly be happy just to see you create art of whomever you want to, or use limit suggestions and polls to higher tiers.

Brandon Barger

Personally, I feel like they should be half the size. Like keep an A and B poll, but get rid of an entire poll at the current size. By splitting one of these polls into two, then instead of the losers chance being simply the characters only one person voted for, you have a better chance at getting the other girls that people genuinely like, but don't have enough of a following to win the polls.

RogueMetroid

I don't think the current system works for me. I never suggest characters because I know there's going to be too many options for anyone to choose them. The system as it is also makes it hard for less popular anime and game characters to win, even with the loser's poll. Some people have suggested theme polls, which are a pretty good idea. Another idea could be to pick out a select number of the characters you want to draw from the suggestions, instead. No matter what you choose to do with the polls, though, I'll continue to support your high-quality art.

ZeroBeta

Yes I would be happy if my proposed character would win, but what I mainly want to see are interesting characters and scenario that I have not seen yet. What would please me, that not always the same characters are repeatedly proposed, so variety would come in. This is just a suggestion, I do not want to force anyone. I think the idea with the themes is good, so even side characters or from not quite known series can shine. Maybe you make a normal poll with a limited number. The 2nd poll rotate between themes and looser poll. Can you change the voting maybe that you can simply vote for multiple characters that you like.

Obibi

Heyo, The current system doesn't really work for me. Most of the time, there are only a few characters getting a lot of votes so even if I'm not fond of them, I'll have to pick one of them (choice by default). I mean that if I see a characters has already 30% of votes, throwing my vote to a character with 0% is useless ^^ You can't really please everyone, so I'd advise that you narrow em down, maybe by popularity (ie how often they are suggested to you) or by the ones you really want to draw? Thanks for your work as always and good luck!

ZeroBeta

Is it possible to set in the poll that the number of votes or the percentage remains unknown as long as it runs?

Viewer 101

Character selection, scenario selection and costume selection would be good.

AtlasNovas

Working off of other suggestions, since you're expanding with your patreon maybe you can make a new tier to separate the pool of voters further (it's more of a band aid than a solution though). I also like Obi's perspective so I won't repeat their talking points.

Coro

May not be the greatest solution, but restricting the number of options down to about 10 per poll instead of the usual 20, so you end up with less 1-5% picks ending up on the list. Then you could have a voting theme rotation so everybody who doesn't get their option picked for one poll could have a chance at getting them into another.

Sky

I don’t know if there’s a way to do this but let everyone submit names for a giant list of characters. Then for each poll, 10 or so are picked from that list to be voted on. If no character gets enough votes, then you draw another 10 and so on.

Anonymous

Each individual user is going to want to see their favorite character, as you get bigger it's only natural that you won't be able to satisfy everyone. If you have saved polling data, I would limit it down to the most popular characters from each poll (maybe top 6) that way there will be someone each user is happy to vote for

Mr16Bits

Not sure how to really find a solution as we all want to see our favorite girls getting the Bagelbomb treatment, but maybe as others have said reducing the poll to about 10 would help somewhat and then moving those characters to either a different poll or going into the next one Another option is making a theme based poll, that would reduce the number of choices as well and perhaps give a more focused voting, maybe a just current anime characters poll, a just game characters poll, or other theme based ones. hope that helps a little

Anonymous

Pretty new here but I stopped bothering with the polls after the 2nd or 3rd one I voted in once it became clear that the characters from properties I wanted weren't going to win (perhaps ever). Going to echo what some others have been saying, shorter lists maybe - theme polls (if that works for you). I'm guessing the site doesn't let you do the polls as ranked choice voting which generally makes more people more satisfied. That'd be my suggestion.

TheMask237

I think that, in order to help tone down the massive list of characters, it might be a good idea to have the polls be themed (princesses, tomboys, knights, nurses, etc.), and then to trim things down even further you might want to cherrypick the 8-12 suggestions you like most from the pool. That way the list will always be characters you're at least somewhat interested in drawing, and it will be a much more manageable size.

SuperB

Agree with the themed polls, implementing those with max limits (perhaps based on a first comment basis?) would help keep list sizes small and help higher tier pledges feel like their character submissions have a chance of winning. As an aside, it's great to see feedback and dialogue being conducted like this. I hope whatever results from this poll makes things better for you and all your subscribers!
