The GPD XD+ has now reached a somewhat stable release status that covers both of the revisions out in the wild, and in general, from here on out its all about those quality of life updates.

As such, I've decided to resume my usual 30 day early access modus operandi for my loyal patrons.

You guys deserve special treatment, and I think the general populace has been mooching off your backs for long enough.

I've had my reasons to make the XD+ related work instant access for guests, mostly because of the terrible shape the stock ROM was in, and the fact that people simply had no reliable alternatives to fall back to.

In general though, I'll try to push more patron-only updates from here on out as to make sure all of you get your money's worth of content.

Now that this is out of the way, here's what has changed:

This update adds two additional kernel you can pick from, one for revision 1, one for revision 2, which under-clock the system to its stock 1.8GHz max CPU clock speed.

I've added these options for two reasons:

  • Some people asked me to, and I like to provide.
  • I've encountered overheating on my own unit while operating at 2.1GHz, and hope to give the less adventurous of us (myself included) the option to trade in clock speed for a smaller thermal footprint.

Enjoy.

Hello, first of all thaks for your great workI have issues with Wifi with VR version. Wifi works ok but If I use Bluetooth and Wifi at the same time then Wifi starts droping connection.

Would you mind trying to capture a logcat and dmesg log for me while this is happening? It's difficult for me to make an assessment when I have very little to go on.

Hi Black-Seraph, I have encountered WiFi problems with the GPD XD+ Rev 2 with the latest and second latest CleanRom. I'm pretty sure it's a software problem as it works flawless with the v1.10 Stock Rom. The connection drops completely when downloading something with a few megabytes like an App. I'll try to capture a log of this situation.

Any chance for something between stock and 2.1 in the next build? Not sure if that's possible or not physically but I'd like to OC but like yours my unit can't quite hack it at 2.1.

The SoC can be clocked into certain CPU states. In the range you are looking for there are 1.8, 1.9, 2.0 and 2.1 GHz states. So yeah, if people wanted I could make the 1.9 and 2.0 GHz options available as well.

blackseraph

That's hard to believe as CleanROM is based on 1.10 and nothing has been changed in the way WiFi works on the system. Also, it's hard to believe that Rev 2 users would be running 1.10 Stock ROM as that ROM has the treaded headphone jack issue on Rev 2 units. Are you absolutely sure about what you are reporting here? If so, can you capture me a adb logcat and dmesg log while the issues are happening? I'll gladly look into your case, but I need some kind of log to go on.

Tom was nice enough to provide me some logs related to the problem as a PM. I'll see what I can do.

Great good job ! I used your precedent release 1.10.0.4. When I used I don't have access root,so I patched "bootvr.img" with "Magisk-v17.2" and it works. I will test your new release 1.10.0.5 and if there is again no root I will patch again this file (maybe you can patch for your future release) With your precedent release I don't see really change with Dolphin emulator..maybe I need to activate something..? Thank you ! :)

I created a post about your CleanROM :) <a href="https://dragoncity17.wordpress.com/2018/10/06/gamepad-digital-gpd-xd-cleanrom-overclock-root/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://dragoncity17.wordpress.com/2018/10/06/gamepad-digital-gpd-xd-cleanrom-overclock-root/</a>

I will take care of this issue with the next CleanROM bugfix release. Thanks for reporting the issue to me! The next release is meant to serve as a package update anyway, I will sneak that latest Magisk update in there as well while I'm at it.

Just wanted to say thanks and to report that I could successfully flash CleanROM on my GPD XD+ (VR version). Don't know if it is useful, but I'd also like to report I had no problem with root access (but the system was already rooted out of the box with the original system from GPD). Keep up the great job and looking forward to the next version (hopefully) with the new drivers. Thanks again
