Part of an article in a mail-order class manual, MODERN ILLUSTRATING: DIVISION 6. The book is copyrighted 1946, but the years of the lessons vary, some from twenty years before.  These selected pages from the article, "Interpreting Life in Cartooning and Illustration" by J. H. Dohaney, expound on life observation and the drawing of what they call "a cute girl" nowadays. Though from the quaint, Bad Old Days, it is insightful and empathetic.
