In this world, kitsune are born as regular humans. Their powers are hidden at first and their true selves can only appear through the blessing of the kitsune goddess.

Neither Saya nor her parents ever knew that she had such potential within her, so obviously this was a shock for everyone involved.

Ever since that fateful day, Saya always has the kitsune goddess watching over and protecting her. This also explains her sudden change in behavior whenever she finds herself around people with evil intentions. All of that is a part of the goddesses' self-defense.
