I hope its never answered cause I don't think it really matters. Only how the experience changes ahsoka...

Think it's neither. Anakin wasn't just a Force Ghost like we saw in the past and Ahsoka was at the brink of death so this place had to be literally a World Between the Living Force and Cosmic Force where they both could duel with each other. A fantastic episode.

Since Jacen heard them clash, it wasn't purely in Ahsokas mind. So there must be something tangible. And Ahsokas Body wasn't there until she was ready. And if anyone can manage to get to the World between Worlds it's Anakin. It's Anakin protecting and saving the people he loves. The thing he couldn't do in live, he now can. And not through the dark side either.

There's 4 things for me, that implies it truly is Anakin. 1.) The comment, "Ones never too old to learn," referencing how he learned from Luke to break away from the Dark. 2.) The comment, "I've heard that before" which is a referencing to Luke not wanting to fight him. 3.) Anakin not recognizing the Siege. If it were in her head, they would just carry on a conversation like nothing. 4.) The comment, "Because I'm more than that". Vader was saved by Luke, and died as Anakin. Which is why we saw him as a force ghost at the end of ep.6. Doesn't mean he doesn't regret all his Dark Deeds, but he has a better outlook on life and his legacy. Ashoka hasn't forgiven him, or herself and if it were her mind, she wouldn't have known what his self-perception was. Also just to comment, he has brought Balance to the Force, seamlessly switching from Light to Dark. It's 100% Anakin.

I think it was a vision, in which the real Anakin appeared, but in a form influenced by Ahsoka and the force itself. Meanung, i think he was kinda like a messanger from the force and her subconcious, but in the end it was actually him, just not in typical force ghost form
