I understood where John Henry was coming from every step of the way. It made sense, but he was too close to the situation for him to be in charge. I even understood the leverage he used against Mannheim, but he jumped the gun with raiding his apartment when he knew Clark was going to talk to him. Because of that stick of the leverage, Clark could offer Mannheim the carrot. But him jumping the gun made them lose that opportunity. But, killing Henry Miller seemed like the only thing he could do at the moment. He was up against a super-powered person who was about to kill him. He wouldn't be able to survive a hit from him like Superman could. That was definitely self-defense.

I can understand him keeping Bruno from Peia as leverage, but I think Matteo should at least get to see his mom. Peia is equally important to both of them, but Bruno is not a good person, and this could be how they get the things he stole from the DOD. Now attacking Mannheim's men in the street, I'm not so sure about. They didn't really do anything yet in that situation, and John's first instinct was to fight them all immediately? Granted, he was just protecting himself and his daughter, and they probably would've started something as well, had John done nothing, but now we may never know. Killing Henry Miller was entirely self-defense, and I say he was completely justified. There's no way of knowing for sure what would've happened, but if John didn't kill him, Superman may or may not have gotten there in time, and he could've gotten seriously hurt, or worse. I'm a little on the fence, but in conclusion, I'll say yes.

I think he was and he wasn’t because I think the line between hero and antihero is, killing when you have exhausted all non-lethal options and you only have lethal ones left. And killing without exhausting all non-lethal options. He didn’t exhaust all non-lethal options before killing him. So I feel he’s more of an antihero at this moment.

The whole episode I kept saying "I'm fully on John Henry's side" Clark has been too lenient on how to handle Bruno. Killing Miller was completely self defense. Clark wasn't there in that moment and Miller was going to kill John Henry in about two seconds. I would've done the exact same thing in his shoes. Anyone who says otherwise is essentially saying John Henry should've let himself be killed. Also Henry Miller is a zombie technically, so it's even more justified.

As someone who has taken multiple courses on self defense and use of force (and who works for the local police department as a By-Law officer) I don't understand how anyone could say killing Henry Miller wasn't justified.

I think John Henry was justified in everything he was doing except for the raid on Bruno’s penthouse, that should’ve been left to Superman. I think that many of us agree with John because we aren’t as good of a person as Superman and we would do what John would in his shoes, even if it may be slightly wrong morally from an empathetic perspective.

I really dont see what else he could have done in that scenario. Yes Clark said "there's always another way" but he was miles away and Henry was coming at him head on the only thing he could've done from not dying was to strike back. Justified in my opinion and now I will sit back down

I personally think he was a bit more justified, but while rewatching your reaction for S1, I always forget that John was the first antagonist this show ever had. He definitely has the potential for doing dark stuff.

The arguments for self defense / justifiable homicide are obvious, so where is the writing for Clark coming from? John Henry didn't call for backup from Clark. Clark heard the fight due to it ripping apart downtown. He didn't want backup; he wanted the control to end his opponent; he is going toward the 'judge, jury, executioner' archetype. Can Lana save him from this darker version the way Lois prevents Evil Clark, or is this season a Romeo and Juliet story with an unavoidably tragic conclusion?

Was justified due to self defense but from a moral standpoint, i agree with Superman's "no killing" rule

While I think it is morally wrong to deny visitation, especially after Nat compared it to them losing their Lois, I side with John for this. He simply doesn't have the luxury that Superman has to stick by a rigid code. If Superman holds back, then he gets thrown through a building and gets back up. If John holds back then that could be the end of his life.

I can't believe this is even up for debate. Bruno has tried to kill him, threatened to kill his family, and is creating super villains among other crimes and everyone is acting like John is being out of line. John should have went straight to Bruno and ended this already

I think he was justified John Henry was in a situation of kill or be killed maybe he could’ve gone for a knock out hit but I think he did what he needed too however I don’t think leading a crew into a Mannheim’s house was smart he let his emotions cloud his judgement Superman almost had him

I know this isn’t Superman related but another favourite flash moment nobody talks about is in season one when Oliver/Arrow and Ronnie/Firestorm team up with Barry to take reverse flash out and capture him
