I loved the entire season! Everything was awesome! I would have to say the potential friendship barely passing aang rising from the sacred pool because how cool would it be if aang and zuko were on the same side! like they would destroy everyone! if only :(

My favorite moment is when Iroh told the story of how Zuko got banished and how he received his scar from his father.

Iroh has always been one of my favorite characters. Him doing anything bad ass is my favorite part.

And y'all better be moving straight on to book 2.

I'm so glad that you guys enjoyed Season 1 of my favorite show of all time and I can't wait for you to watch all of the amazing moments in Book 2. For me my favorite moment of Book 1 is the scene in The Storm between Zuko and Ozai when Zuko gets his scar. That one scene changed how I viewed Zuko and made him a more interesting character. If I had to pick a second favorite it would be the Zuko and Aang conversation about friendship in The Blue Spirit.

I gotta say my favorite (not so) moment was just the entire Blue Spirit episode. All the goodness

Tone

My favorite moment of season one is the other backstory we got in "The Storm," that of Zuko. To this point in the story, we really had no idea why Zuko was after the Avatar other than "to restore his honor." With the revelation of the Agni Kia against his father, the source of his scar, and his subsequent banishment, Zuko was given so much depth that you want to root for him to restore his honor (just not at the expense of Aang.) Iroh also shows his deep love of Zuko's in telling his nephew's story.

Favorite moment was Aang's conversation with Koh the Face Stealer. The entire conversation was intense and contained so much history and lore. Incredibly well written and acted.

My favorite part was when appa battled that mole thing.

Zuko is in my Top 3 favorite characters, and even in the first season, he just grows so much. Zuko's backstory in The Storm just gives his character so much depth than a lot of series' main protagonists. And it definitely gives his Agni Kai with Zhao a much better feel when you watch that one again. Not to mention his growth as a character this season was crazy. He went from Episode 1, telling Iroh that he knows how to firebend, to the final episode, where he listens to and heeds his advice. Also, his last fight with Zhao was pretty neat. I love firebending fights.

I have many favorite moments in B1, but I think the one that stood out to me the most (especially during my childhood) was when Princess Yue sacrificed herself in the finale. She was only 16 years old and basically had her whole life ahead of her, but when it came down to her duty to her tribe and even the world, she was ready and willing to give her life up. It was such a powerful moment of selflessness that really tugged at my heartstrings and even more so when you realize that the moment she was born, she was destined to give her life up for the greater good. God, things like this that really made ATLA as a whole more than your typical kids show.

While I love (and kind of tear up, just like Calvin) when Aang joins with the Ocean spirit, my number one moment for season 1 will always be finding out Zuko's backstory (and Aang's, but Zuko's always surprised me more I guess?). Like, just to see the contrast of who he was then, to he became. To view this young kid, who spoke out of turn to defend the lives of soldiers, with tears in his eyes kneeling in front of his father and just imagining what happens after that (him BURNING HALF HIS FACE OFF in front of an audience), it gives me chills. It's so dark and I never really expected that from this show at first.

The best part about this season is the last 3 episodes. Kitara vs Zuuko was pretty epic.

I am in agreement with a lot of others here the storm is just too good to turn a totally evil antagonist (from viewers perspective) to a misunderstood protagonist almost in 20 mins is amazing

Looking forward to your book 2 reactions! Now that Dave Filoni is out of the picture, take note of the other amazing directors of this show :D Giancarlo Volpe, Ethan Spaulding, Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren MacMullan. The last two are currently directing/producing the new Voltron show. Book 1 was a great introduction to the world, but Book 2 takes its story to another level.

I have three favorites: 1) Aang and Zukos backstory. 2) Aangs freekout at the southern Air temple. 3) Sokka saying he will be on the special mission and then cutting to Aang saying "I wasn't there when the fire nation attacked my people, I'm gonna make a difference this time." The orchestral version of the four seasons song fits the somber tone of the scene perfectly.
