That was 100% David Bowie from the "Life on Mars?" video.

Of course that was David Bowie. As his persona Ziggy Stardust. Gillian Anderson even did the accent (and pretty good as far as I could tell).

cstarklady

Gillian Anderson should play Media playing Scully.

I think it was pretty neat that the God Vulcan made the Logical choice and joined the New Gods.

Greg Alan

Agreed. Why are we suppose to root for the old gods? They fuck with people just as much (maybe more) than the new gods. and at least the new gods give tech, the old gods would have people stay in the stone age to worship them

Vulcan is the roman counterpart of Hephaestus, greek god of fire and smithery

I've always assumed American Gods is set more or less in the same world as Gaiman's Sandman--so Dream was born the first time something was born somewhere in the universe capable of imagination, Dream's realm grew around him, and the gods emerged from there. So it's possible (some) gods predate humanity, since other animals dream. "Allah" is just Arabic for "God." Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews call God Allah, too. So they're probably the same and also different--but it wouldn't matter, because they don't have images, and that seems to be a necessary part of this. That's why there are different Jesuses--every Christian culture depicts Jesus as looking like themselves. Since nobody makes images of Allah/God/YHVH, there's nothing to walk around. As for Muhammed, he's a prophet, not a god, so he wouldn't show up. Leprechauns and djinni are older pagan gods transformed into something else to survive after monotheism took over; prophets were never worshipped.

It's so awesome you guys are doing this series. Great analysis and recap!

I like the idea of there being a connection to Sandman. I'm not sure if I think it's exactly the same universe (though it's an interesting idea), but there's definitely a thematic connection. I was just about to try and explain all the other stuff, but you summed it up so much better. Great explanation.

I mean, technically ALL fiction is set in the same universe as Sandman, since all fiction takes place in the Dreaming... But at that point we're getting into Tommy Westphal/Munchspiracy territory, so.

Jen A. Blue

That'd be awesome, but IIRC Comcast owns Lionsgate (who own Starz). I doubt Fox would be happy with it.

So Eric has either watched ahead or read the book or is just really good at guessing.

Mohammed's

Where's this week's episode?

Doby Greg

Problem with Mohammed is that I think he is considered dead even by those that believe he was a prophet. While Jesus is considered to be godly Mohammed was just someone with a strong connection to god. He's kind of like Moses. Also I think the person that was suppose to resurrect the dead wife is the abrahamic god(Jesus's father). Jesus is suppose to be sitting by his side and he has resurrected plenty in the bible. Plus in modern time people still believe in him.
