DISCLAIMER: Yes, I know about the term change. No, I will not rename this. If you are offended, you can use s4s to change the string tables yourself. There are plenty of Aspies out there still comfortable with this term.

"Asperger syndrome, also known as Asperger's, is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It is an autism spectrum disorder, but differs from other ASDs by relatively unimpaired language and intelligence. Although not required for diagnosis, physical clumsiness and unusual use of language are common. Signs usually begin before two years of age and in many cases never resolve." ~ Wikipedia

Do you have one that is named "autism" or do you only have this one? I feel uncomfortable with this term but love the idea of the mod

YourFalseHope

no, I don't, but it's very easy to change the name of it yourself in s4s. Editing string tables is simple.

I still love this trait today because as you mentioned, the people you made it for, who still identify with this term, still matter and deserve to be represented. I hate that you STILL have to keep explaining your reasoning behind making this trait to people. If they don't like it, then they shouldn't bother themselves with using it or as you mentioned before: change it themselves.

Simple for those of us who know computers, but for anyone whos never seen code before and don't know what to do it can be confusing, I just did it myself so thought I'd make a comment <3 also, thank you to the creator for making mods for us neurodivergents<3 For anyone confused, open the file in Sims 4 Studio, and open each tab where you see the word Asperger's, highlight just the word Asperger's in the line of code (you might have to scroll to find it) highlight just that word, and then replace it with either ASD or Autism, when you've replaced all of them (make sure you double check because there's sometimes more then 1 per tab) and save when you're finished, then rename the "Aspersers" in the file name to whatever you renamed them in the code, either ASD or Autism, if this isn't what you're supposed to do please correct me but wanted to help if I could those who need it <3

hey! this isn’t a valid diagnosis anymore. the term was created by a nazi and has been removed. letting you know in case you didn’t. it’s now just under ASD ❤️

YourFalseHope

I am aware, I did this for those who still identify as such and use the term "Aspie". I know people personally who do.

Anonymous

ah ok. often autistic find this term offensive due to the origin however there will always be autistic people who don’t mind. i personally don’t like the term anymore. (i was originally diagnosed with this) however if some people don’t mind then 🤷‍♀️ just wanted to let you know :))

Anonymous

100% agree. people can feel free to call themselves whatever they feel comfortable with. and that representation is still super important

Anonymous

@Niamh While it makes me uncomfortable too, there are other countries that do still use the diagnosis, as well, not just individual people, so -- as long as YFH isn't making it seem "better" to have one than the other, I would say it's good to have the representation for those who want it <3

True AI

I know a man in America who identifies with this term. They are still out there.

Athena Apollos

I <3 it!!! Thanks for adding the collection buffs.

I am happy that you took the time to speak up, and respectfully respond. I just recently (Tuesday) posted some videos about Aspergers to my FB. Before posting it that day, I would've told you, I believe I am on the Spectrum. I would've said Autistic. That day I posted those videos, friends came out to say they were '"Aspies" and I realized I not only was putting a stigma on the term because an old friend who had it wasn't the best person but was ignoring the possibility that I might be there too. As of right now, I am proud to be a self-diagnosed Aspie lol, but I honestly don't see the significance in labeling Aspergers separate from Autism. We understand it is a spectrum, and Aspergers is on that spectrum. Since intelligence Mentally or Socially is different for every person and not everyone has the same ticks, it might be fair to say, the need for precise labeling is no longer correct. Or a clearer definition of those lines, but I'm sure the latter is borderline impossible at this point.

As someone who is autistic, this looks like an interesting mod

hey i know this is an oldish post but in the autistic community we dont usually say aspergers anymore bc hans aspergers was assiocated with n*** germany in ww2, autism is the prefered word. (most ppl arent aware of him being like that)

YourFalseHope

Like I said in the comments above, I know but I did this for those who still use this term and refer to themselves as "Aspie". These people are valid too.

As an autistic adult i personally don't care what label you give it...any label is better than being called weird all your life... and i know many older generation that still DO refer to themselves as having aspergers, and if you really want to nit pick the correct terminology, clinically ASD is also NOT used anymore, the term now is just autistic. And where i come from in MY community that includes anyone neuro diverse whether, Aspergers, autism, adhd or any other neuro diversity and we often DO refer to ourselves collectively as aspies. What does really get my goat though is the total misrepresentation of lack of empathy. Speaking for myself and i'm sure i can speak for many other Autistic people it is the complete opposite. A great deal of the over stimulation even as children comes from not just the physical stuff but that fact that we absorb so much of other peoples emotional baggage, you'll find many autistic people are in fact empaths.

The whole Hans Asperger was an evil nazi is hotly debated anyway. Its really a matter of opinion, and ive been shown literature describing Asperger as a very different person from the caricature that is sometimes used in other literature. I can also testify that a hell of a lot of aspies have no offense at the term, or the man. I personally use it, and have no problem with Hans Asperger. - Aspie.

yep. Im also personally a little miffed at the decrease in comedy skill, because in my case, I figured out the "comedy algorithm" and I can be very funny if I run that piece of "software". (Takes a lot of energy to run tho). lol But maybe it is somewhat accurate for me, because it did take me over a decade to 'decode" how humor works on a granular level.

Please rename it, Asperger's is no longer a used term as it has bad history.

Sleepy

pls rename this...
