Hi everyone! I have been hard at work this week learning some new tech that will help me to share quickie information with the community. News updates about patches and upcoming DLC is definitely the focus, though at times I can also use it for mini-guides and tutorials. This will also be a good way to link to new videos and text guides.

The home page automatically shows the most recent 10 posts, and the sidebar shows the most recent 5. On mobile, you also have a small segment that only shows the most recent 5. This area of the site has routinely gone out of control during new releases, with 10+ links there it really clogs things up. Now it moves as I make new stuff. During releases I might temporarily increase the limit, when there's high interest in particular things but I think we'll try to keep it small.

Overall I'm really thrilled to have this working. It was extremely hard, but the payoff long term is there as it lets me skip all the file creation uploading/editing I normally have to do. It takes about 1/4 the time as usual to make a post like this. Everything related to updating news sections on the site is done automatically when I make a new post.

I won't be using this for organization of the main guides. It's definitely meant for sharing info about my creations and I still want a good structure for the site that allows people to bounce around from one topic to another.

This is obviously why I haven't put out a video in a week. I wanted to have this in place for Realm of Magic for sharing things about it!

Further Details on The Sims 4 Realm of Magic

We've learned a couple things we failed to notice back on Realm of Magic's announcement day that I'd like to share here. I need to update the RoM main page with this info, but it's neat to be able to use this new News System to share information with the community.

That sounds brilliant. What systems are you using- advanced css or PHP?

We got the sites upgraded to php 7 with a custom wordpress install setup. It was fun learning to incorporate it into the existing design while retaining a lot of functionality. I'll have to do changes by hand, but it's cool to have it look exactly like the rest of the site.
