August already? Time flew by these past few weeks. Time to get another State of the Game update out there!

Progress

First let's talk about how the game's progressing. Luckily I got good news on this front because story and coding wise we're ahead of schedule! I've begun fleshing out the story and started writing the social trees for the characters. As well as get a basic gameplay loop going.

I'm still playing around with certain mechanics. Some are added, some are removed. Some mechanics that sound fun on paper turn out to be boring in practice. It's part of game development and luckily I can already begin testing what does and doesn't work. Which will save a lot of time and work for the future.

Fun fact, did you know Paprika Trainer was originally suppose to have a over-the-shoulder third person shooter mechanic? The only remnant of that now is the dart gun :D

Art

For art we're still in the planning stage. Jodsy has been hard at working making concept art for the many different characters that I've got planned. Here's what they did for Amber, one of the girls you'll be meeting in camp.

Unlike Paprika Trainer and Orange Trainer, we'll be focusing on a lot more characters in this one. With the main focus being on a select number of main characters, but also plenty of side characters for which H scenes are planned.

Backgrounds are coming in at a steady pace as well. I'm hoping to make this game give a very light, summer time vibe. A relaxing atmosphere and just hanging with your friends.

Animations

Some sacrifices will have to be made and for this game, it's going to be the animations. Let me explain why.

The animations in PT were probably one of the highlights. Excellent art, animated by wonderful animators and voiced by talented actresses. However, they were also costly and time-intense to make. On top of that, many people mentioned feeling more nostalgic for old way of doing adult scenes like in Orange Trainer. Where you wouldn't have animations, but instead detailed descriptions of what was going on.

For Camp Mourning Wood we'll be going back to the old style, with animations as a stretch Patreon goal.

First release

It's still too early on to be talking about the first alpha release, but we are working towards it. The time between OT and the first PT release was 6 months. We're trying our best to reduce that time for CMW. More info when there's more to talk about.

Wrapping up

That's about it for now! Work is progressing as planned and I hope to fill you in on more details when they're released. Thank you again for all the support and talk to you in the next update!

i understand the reason why animations is not anymore a thing, but after watching animated scenes anything less that that seems bad

I will say this seems interesting. The sketch with the hall and such looked really nice.
