This episode and the previous one are a kind of "stealth start" for Season 3. The content is based on the start of the next book in the series, although very much modified (the party was a birthday party for Shizuku, Tatsuya and Miyuki had no part in Ayako and Fumiya's introductory adventure, and there was no terrorist attack on a tower -- or even a tower). The bulk is still mostly from that next story arc, and what I have seen of the trailer for Season 3 has confirmed to me that it will continue with that -- though it is a short arc, and the season will also include another short arc. There was a volume of short stories released before the events of Season 2. Some of these have been referred to, but not shown. There is a story that addresses Nakajou becoming Mayumi's successor as Student Council President (between the Nine Schools arc and the Yokohama Incident Arc), a summer vacation story that leads to Shizuku's mother asking about "Honoka's crush", and the content of the Reminiscence Arc, I do encourage you to try to watch that before Season 3 starts; it adds context to Miyuki's reaction to meeting Minami. Regarding the party scene, there is more to it in the novels, including a conversation between Tatsuya and Shizuku's mother, I do not know if that will be worked into the flow of Season 3, so I will say no more about it for now.
