The anime leaves out a lot of the explanation from the novels (and even the manga). The Tatsuya we have seen so far has been operating with about 1/2 of his abilities while Miyuki uses 1/2 of hers to suppress his. She released both of them, temporarily.

There are some short stories that the anime does not include. One describes why the Yotsuba are so feared (and adds context to the Saegusa and Yotsuba family relations); another is about the student council election when Mayumi stepped down and Azusa became president (referenced at the start of this arc when Tatsuya asked Miyuki if she was busy with "the new student council").
