"Dancers at the Mansion', in oils, work in progress but nearly there.

Has been a tough old week work wise with lots of late nights and feeling a bit exhausted.  Was tempted to have a nap this afternoon  or loll around but I forced myself into the studio. Sometimes it can be difficult to get going painting again as it is such a different part of the brain.

But I am glad I did. Painting is my time to enter a different world - I am definitely happiest with a paint brush. This painting I posted before but after a few hours today is now progressing toward completion.  The knack is going to be knowing when to stop. Overdoing a painting in this style can ruin it, so it's a tricky balancing act.

I do a lot of portraits so it is fun to do a painting where all the details are made up so with no pressure to get a likeness.  I am not worrying if the house is exactly right (which it isn't) or if the dancers were all really there (they weren't), I am just going with the feeling led by colour.  It's quite liberating.

I'm stopping now as the light is going in my studio as there is a little window. Hope your weekends are going well too.

Getting into the studio is a good call. I love your portraiture but is exciting seeing you just "whim" it, too.
