Tonight our family went to the opera!!

It was a huge journey for us…. as we had to walk 20 metres across the square for it!!

The production we organised by Lirica Ribes and is being performed by students of Esmuc (Catalonia's Higher Music School). It was directed by Alan Branch on the piano and produced by Susana Egea.

It is a Spanish affair, composed by Seville tenor and composer Manuel Garcia, in 1831. It is called called "Warning to the jealous" ("Ann avvertimento ai gelosi") and is a comedy around jealousy in marriage.

We didn’t understand many of the words because it was sung in Italian with the translation in Catalan …but we immensely enjoyed the whole evening, the spectacle and the beautiful music. The standard of musicianship was seriously phenomenal.  We loved it!

We feel very lucky that although a small town Sant Pere Ribes has such a rich cultural life.  And it is lovely to get home in 7 seconds at the end of the night too!

Fabulous thing to be able to attend cultural events by walking across the square. I think this is most wonderful for your young girls to experience. I went to the Opera with my parents as a girl and teenager and I have had a lifelong love with it.
