I am in the UK today doing Christmas visits. I was out Christmas shopping today in Oxford. The town has changed a lot with lots of glitzy shops now but at the end of the day I decided to go and look where I used to study history back in the day.

It was in this amazing library - the Radcliffe Camera where I spent many an hour studying. Also the little windows lit up to the very right were the library lights of my college, Braseose and this is a picture of the college gate.

I felt quite nostalgic- it only feels like yesterday but at the same time a different age and pace of life.

I prefer reading history books now mind you - it is a lot more enjoyable when there isn’t an essay or exam at the end of it. I can’t wait to learn more Spanish and Catalan to start to discover more about the history of my new home.

Yes! Learn Spanish and Catalan, but you needn’t wait until then to study the history of Spain and Catalonia. There are many books translated and also there are many British (and American) authors of Spanish history, including regarding the history of the Spanish and their colonies, which was a bidirectional influence as you well know and continues to be so. Go for it Ollie! 💗

How fortunate for you that you got to study in such a beautiful place. The buildings are gorgeous!
