Today we thoroughly enjoyed a trip to the Modernist (Art Nouveau) festival in Canet de Mar. It’s a three day fanfare of fun with stalls selling locally made wares including jewellery and clothes and then creative pop ups where you can be photographed in sepia against a traditional backdrop or create your own Modernist style hat or hairband with floral and lace decoration. We enjoyed tapas at one of the lovely cafe’s while enjoying songs, impromptu street performances, dance and of course, the most inspiring array of elegant costumes carefully put together by those there to join in the celebrations. The town is famous for being the summer residence and retirement home of Lluís Domènech i Montaner the founding father of the Catalan Modernist / Arr Nouveau movement and mentor of Gaudi. It’s well worth a visit!
