Just an update here:
As some of you know, I was shadowbanned on YouTube about 6 weeks ago. You don't get any notification for this type of thing, you just basically have to look at your analytics to see that you've not gotten any organic clicks from the sidebar or related content.

This brings my average views from 20-40k per video to about 5k per video.

Why was I shadowbanned?
You'd think that if YouTube wanted to discourage certain things, they'd explain what it is they want to discourage. But no. The criminal is leading their own CSI case!
My top guesses:

1. I funded part of the swamp video with an Audible plug and didn't have a PAID PROMOTION banner in front of the video. This is honestly my bad, as I figured that those settings were for "influencer marketing". Like if I was giving something a review and being compensated for it. I don't think anyone assumed that I just decided to pause my swamp video to tell you that you can click audible.com/benn for a free trial. 😂

But again, this is my bad as I didn't read it the rules close enough. Shame on me.

2. Anything crypto-related may just get buried automatically and fall out of the algorithm. I realize that musing about the future use of NFT's to create a funding platform for independent musicians is very different than screaming about bitcoin, but it could be lumped in by the algorithm.

I had some big ideas planned for...well...now. Caves, New Mexico, even Europe!
My Patreon funds do not quite cover big ideas, and I won't be getting any sponsors like Audible with 5k views per video to pick up the rest of the budget.

So lemons. Who wants lemonade?

See that mysterious $3000 SYNTRX connected to that post?
I'm going to borrow one and see what it's all about. I'm also planning on doing an audio makeover of a popular podcast. Also anyone remember Metasynth and Artmatic? Oh and isn't Empress finally releasing a insanely powerful module soon? Hmm.

As bummed as I am to have to climb my way back into the algorithm to be able to afford larger productions, I have plenty of ideas that don't fit into larger productions. So I'm excited to take it down a notch too.

Finally, this would be absolutely devastating without this community. Like my income from YouTube would be nothing and rather than volunteering all this time to a platform that can't even light a path forward, I'd likely take a private gig and at the very least, be on a very long hiatus from the channel.

But Patreon saves the day. I get 100x more fulfillment from the existence of this community than I do from 250,000 views. I know it's trite to say "none of this would be possible without you", but that's literally the case here. Thank you. 🥰

I think #1 is most likely. At least I've seen a bunch of other youtubers do an NFT video with plenty of views. Then again, looking at your number of views over the past 1-2 years things are quite all over the place (and that's even cumulative) so it may even just depend on stupid things like video title, meta-data, thumbnail shot, etc

3rd possibility: could be a false positive in their system and so there may be no concrete reason why it happened. Even if YouTube/Google ever contacted you, I would find it unlikely any employee could even explain to you why it happened if it was a false positive.

Keep going Benn - As soon as you get audience figures ie eyeballs for their ads, they’ll come crawling back - I’ve never liked middle men - who only ‘disrupt’ other middle men to get to the cash, and set no value by the creatives who got them there……. Just my two cents ;-)

Great synth pic by the way - the VCS is probably the only hardware synth I would ever buy - Crazy and beautiful - How good can it get!

Damn. I guess I'll just go up a tier as a sign of support. Let's hope the channel is going to spring back fast.

so... Syntrx review coming? :)

Imagine being Youtube and having a service that is so sought after, that you can make decisions to increase your profits and that completely ruin the users' experience, and you don't even have to bother explaining. Everyone will just get mad but keep using the service. It makes sense, since the content creators and the viewers aren't the customers. But it sure is a rough way to have to do things.

Is there anything we can do to help? Let us know if so. Otherwise we can try watching every video 10x to make up for the lost viewers ;)

I first thought: "Shadowban" - huh! yet another synth or app maker I never heard of before :-D I don't like to hear that. My perception of your channel is constant growth with some minor dips here, where there are the cool niche themes, which I pretty much like and some outliers there, where you hit on things more people are affected by or are interested in (which I also like). So I hope the best for it. Yours is the only channel really Patreon-worthy for me atm.

Also: did you try the iVCS 3 iPad App? Didn't try it, but if you have 15 Bucks to spare, maybe you can take 15 minutes to look at it and take another 2 minutes of your Synthrx-Video to say it is shit or something, so I don't have to buy it. Or even better: it is "good enough for 15 bucks". That's when I'd try it ;-)

Benn, even if I hadn't already saved more on discounts than I've paid you, the cost of the Patreon would be worth it for the content you post alone. I hope whatever's happened with the algorithm gets resolved because I think the more people see your videos the better it is for everyone, I'm just glad to be able to help in any small way. FWIW, I think 1 is the most likely, were you to get shadowbanned over the content of any video itself it would have been much more likely with your LRAD video than your NFT video, I can only imagine there's plenty of channels out there devoted to talking about crypto and much more in need of regulating than you.

thank YOU, benn jordan!! I'm not gonna be pessimistic or optimistic or anything... I'll just say that I hope that youtube, or google, or satan, or whoever decides to be more clear & upfront about whatever it is that take issue with, & doesn't continue just cutting people off like they did with you &, surely, countless other youtubers. again, benn... thanks bunches, man. we really love what you do. even my wife loves your stuff. she gets distracted when I'm watching your vids 'cause it always catches her interest. I think her words were, "I can't ignore that guy." so her hat's off to you as well. bravo!!
